York closed his eyes, weary.

Claudia had always been a devoted daughter, only sharing good news with her parents and hiding the bad. By asking them to pick her up today, she was signaling her intent to tell them about his 'affair.'

Her parents doted on her; they wouldn't let him take her back so easily.

After Claudia got home with her parents, her mother busied herself making up a room for her, while her father went out to buy groceries. Claudia did her best to pull herself together and helped them.

That evening, as Felix cooked in the kitchen, Claudia and her mother sat just outside, prepping vegetables.

After a long hesitation, Claudia finally said it. "Dad, Mom... I'm planning to separate from York."

Felix, who was cooking, lowered his head even further.

Jessica had already suspected as much. "Claudia, tell me the truth. Is there someone else?"

Claudia's eyes reddened again as she fought to keep her composure. "His first love is back. She had his son, and he's been keeping them."

There was a loud clang from the kitchen as Felix threw down his wok and turned off the stove.

He came out of the kitchen, his face grim. "Our family may be poor, but we will not endure this humiliation."

Jessica was firm. "Claudia, you have to listen to us on this. You can't stay with a man who has betrayed you. Divorce him."

Looking at her parents, Claudia's voice trembled. "York has agreed to a divorce, but we have to pay him back a billion dollars."

Felix's hand, still clutching the spatula, began to shake uncontrollably.
