She looked up at him. "York, I'll be staying with my parents for a while. I'll do everything I can to pay you back and get this divorce finalized. Whatever concerns you have, think them through and let me know. I'll do my best to cooperate."
York stared at her determined face and let his hand fall.
Darleen, horrified, quickly tried to distance herself from her brother. "Claudia, my brother is the one who messed up. You're not going to ignore me too, are you?"
Claudia gave Darleen a reassuring look. "Darleen, even if your brother and I get a divorce, we'll always be good friends."
As she left with her parents and brother, she remembered to say goodbye to Peter. "Peter, we're leaving now."
Peter and Darleen walked them to the door. After they left, Darleen glared at her brother, grabbed her bag, and stormed out as well.
Once everyone was gone, Peter couldn't help but ask, "She sounded so certain just now. Do you think she's already found the money?"
York sank onto the sofa and got himself a drink. "Her mother owns a set of jewelry worth over a billion."
Claudia's parents had always doted on her. She must have told them everything.
To ease her suffering, they would have given her the jewelry to use as leverage for the divorce. Otherwise, she wouldn't have been so confident about paying him back and ending the marriage.
Peter leaned against a cabinet across the room. "She's about to divorce you. Aren't you going to explain anything?"
