The car had just left the airport when York's phone rang.
After the call, York told the driver to head to Eddy's school first.
When he had first enrolled Eddy, he had listed his personal cell number as the emergency contact, considering that Claudia's parents were getting on in years.
The call had been from a teacher. Eddy had gotten into a fight with a classmate, and since the school couldn't reach his sister, they had called him.
At the dean's office.
The moment York walked in, several school administrators who had been waiting rushed to greet him.
A middle-aged man stepped forward respectfully. "Mr. Ferguson, I'm so sorry to trouble you with coming down here yourself. It's just that the other boy's parents are refusing to let it go."
The families who could afford this prestigious private school were either wealthy or powerful, and the principal didn't dare offend any of them.
York gave a polite nod and walked straight to Eddy.
He looked him over and saw a bruise on the corner of Eddy's mouth. York's expression darkened. "Are you hurt anywhere else?"
Eddy slapped York's hand away. "Leave me alone!"
With that, the boy turned his back on him.
The school officials saw this but didn't dare to intervene.
One of them quickly stepped forward to explain what had happened. "Mr. Ferguson, according to our investigation, Eddy got into a verbal altercation with another boy from his class during recess. We've confirmed that Eddy threw the first punch, but he refuses to explain why or cooperate with us in apologizing to the other student."
York listened quietly to the administrator's explanation without responding.
He patiently walked over to Eddy, placing a hand on the boy's shoulder and applying gentle pressure, forcing Eddy to look at him.
York asked again, "Tell me, are you hurt anywhere else?"
Eddy twisted his neck and grabbed York's wrist, shrugging violently to break free from his grip.
