York took the items, his gaze landing on the bank card, and his deep eyes narrowed dangerously.
Ann spoke cautiously, "Your wife asked me to give these to you. She also told me to let you know that there's a billion dollars on this card. The day you go with her to sign the divorce papers is the day she'll give you the password."
With a sharp clatter, York tossed the divorce agreement and the bank card onto the coffee table. "The driver will be here any minute. Go pack your things."
He sat down on the sofa and lit a cigarette.
She'd managed to get a billion dollars that quickly.
She must have sold that jewelry set through a private dealer.
Ann was stunned. Even with the divorce papers right in front of him, he was still kicking her out.
Clenching her fists, she said through gritted teeth, "York, why can't you just admit that you still have feelings for me?"
York leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, and took a long drag from his cigarette.
His tone was unreadable when he spoke. "Ann, what was between us ended six years ago."
The faint smoke blurred his vision as he stared intently at the divorce papers and the bank card on the table.
Ann stood before him, her eyes filled with resentment. "York, I know your grandfather and your parents look down on me. They've put pressure on you, so you can't just divorce your wife and get back together with me."
Her voice softened. "York, I understand. If this is how things have to be for the rest of our lives, I can accept it. But please don't say such cruel things to me. It really hurts to hear them."
York stubbed out his cigarette and stood up. "Ann, when I, York Ferguson, want to do something, no one can stop me. I'm not getting a divorce because I don't want one."
York continued, "My wife has been pampered since she was a child. She can't stand being wronged. Whether she runs away from home or demands a divorce, that's between us as husband and wife."
York said, "And I don't need your understanding. The best way you can help me right now is to take Ethan and leave now."
