The second he saw Lucian Lyttelton’s name, his whole vibe shifted–stormy and

dark.

He knew that name. Knew that guy.

Pierre had always spoiled Zoe out of guilt. That marriage pact? Totally his idea.

Lucian wasn’t just anyone–heir to the Lyttelton empire in Khelmark City, now running the whole thing. Polished on the outside, ruthless underneath. Took him only six months to lock down the top seat.

And the kicker? He used to be into Zoe.

Connor snapped. Told his assistant to book the next flight to Khelmark City.

Halfway to the airport, his phone rang.

“Mr. Buxton–bad news! A bunch of our subsidiaries just got slammed. Product violations, PR nightmares with our spokespeople and execs, and now the tax guys are raiding us. It’s a mess–leaks everywhere. The media’s going off, and our stock’s tanking!”

Connor’s grip nearly crushed his phone. “Tell everyone to cooperate. We’ve got nothing to hide. Lock things down–I’ll be there in ten.”

He hung up, jaw tight.

He didn’t need to guess.

“Lucian Lyttelton.”

He growled the name under his breath.

His face dropped.

His finger hovered over one name on the “Bride” line–Zoe Hertbert.

The black ink practically burned.

The wedding? Three days away.

Connor let out a low, bitter laugh.

Lucian wasn’t even pretending to play fair–just straight–up mailed the date and location like a challenge.

What, did he think Connor couldn’t pull it together in time? Or was he just that sure Zoe wouldn’t leave?

Connor reached for Zoe’s diary in the corner, smoothing a bent page.

Yeah, he’d screwed up. But after ten years? He couldn’t believe she’d walk away for good.

If he could just see her. Just explain it was all a misunderstanding.

She’d come back.
