Chapter 24

I stared at Jonathan unblinkingly, my gaze aware and alert, guarding against his next move.

He paused, seemingly surprised by how strong my reaction had been, and displeasure colored his expression.

After a while, he spoke in a low voice.

“The hospital said that you needed to redress your wounds.

What was that about exactly?

” I pursed my lips, feeling very impatient with him.

“Haven’t I already told you?

It’s none of your business!” His gaze darkened, and it was obvious that fury was brewing beneath his eyes.

He grabbed my wrist and pressed me onto the large bed behind me.

Then, he pulled my clothes up and inspected me for signs of injury.

I struggled hard against him.

“Have you lost your mind?

Let go of me!

Jonathan!

Let go!” But he ignored me and merely focused on his inspection.

Once he was sure I didn’t have any external injuries, he looked me in the eyes and asked, “Where exactly is it that’s hurting, huh?

” Jonathan’s eyes bore into mine, not wanting to miss even the slightest flash of emotion.

“Elise, did you get any other injuries that day after you fell in the pool?

” I don’t know if I had imagined it, but I actually saw a trace of regret beneath the restraint in his eyes.

Why would he have such an emotion?

I let out a self-deprecating laugh.

I must’ve seen it incorrectly.

Or maybe it was the remnants of my feelings for him that were playing tricks on me, like signs of withdrawal that had been etched into me.

I didn’t have any feelings for him now, nor did I have any memories about us, but just one look into his eyes and those subconscious feelings still stirred inside me involuntarily.

But that didn’t matter as it was only the tiniest bit.

I had already forgotten him now, and other than the involuntary reactions of my body—probably muscle memory built up over a long period of time—the only things I felt for him were disdain and disgust.

“Whether I was injured or not, it has nothing to do with you,” I emphasized this once more.

Jonathan frowned, and his voice deepened.

“Come with me to the bedroom, and let me take a proper look.” “You’re not even a doctor, so what point is there in you looking?
