Dawn didn't answer directly. She sidestepped with some small talk instead.
In less than ten days, she'd be leaving the country.
Who knew when she'd see Tara again?
After a few aimless words, she hung up. She paused for a moment, then handed her phone back at the door.
"Is your boss super busy lately?" she asked.
"We don't really track Mr. Curran's schedule," Victor said. He glanced at her. "If you have anything you want me to pass along, I can do that."
"No, it's fine," Dawn said, shaking her head, and went to wash up.
Jonathan probably wouldn't change anything. All she needed to do was get her things ready and quietly wait to go abroad.
The next few days went by without any news about Ethan and Roxanne. Online chatter died down, and people found fresher gossip.
She met Anna, but she didn't outright say she was leaving.
Still, the way she talked—like she was tying up loose ends—made Anna suspicious.
"What are you planning? Don't tell me you're thinking of hurting yourself."
The thought nagged at her more and more.
Dawn wasn't that kind of person, but nowadays, people slapped labels on every mood. Who could really know?
Dawn chuckled at Anna's worried look and gave her a playful swat.
"Stop saying dumb stuff."
She shook her head. "I just feel like I need to slow down and reset. Going back to school won't hurt, right?"
Anna exhaled. "So, where are you headed?"
Dawn pursed her lips and shook her head.
Everything was uncertain. Best not to spill yet.
Once she got settled abroad, she'd reach out.
Anna didn't pry. She tossed out a few suggestions. As long as it wasn't illegal or shady, she'd support whatever Dawn decided.
A few days passed quickly.
The quiet news buzz started heating up again.
The Jackson Group's CEO and Stonewarden Group's heiress were about to get engaged, drawing attention from all parties.
Even if Dawn didn't follow it, bits and pieces reached her.
Maybe she'd absorbed too much. All that was left was numbness.
The night before her flight, Jonathan finally returned after being away for a long time. Dressed in a black suit, he looked sharper, colder than before.
He loaded all the processed papers into the car and said quietly, "Victor will go abroad with you."
Dawn asked on instinct, "And you?"
"Me?"
