Obedience No More He's the One I Deserved novel Chapter 349

Dawn was gone.

"Don't freak out. Maybe they unbuckled and swam to shore."

But there was another possibility.

She could've been swept away downstream. They had no way to know if she was alive.

The assistant cleared everyone out and called in a rescue team.

The police alone weren't enough. Their own team could send more people and search the whole river faster.

Jonathan stayed quiet the whole time, heavy and icy, his presence making the scene feel colder.

He glanced down at the busy rescue crew and said roughly, "Go to the engagement venue."

The assistant froze, then understood.

Jonathan wanted to find Ethan.

The assistant felt a chill. Today was clearly going to be an endless war.

By noon, every main road was jammed, cars inching forward.

The Grandora Hotel's entrance was even worse.

It was Ethan and Roxanne's engagement. Everyone wanted to be part of the buzz and not miss the social event.

When Jonathan's car pulled up, a server hurried over to open the door.

Jonathan looked grim. One look from him made the social climbers back away.

His sharp eyes scanned around. "Where's Ethan?"

The server didn't know Jonathan, but he felt intimidated and bowed quickly. "Mr. Jackson is inside."

Jonathan's face darkened as he walked forward in long, brisk steps.

Calling it a two-person engagement party was generous—one of them was just putting on a show for the other.

Ethan lounged on the couch, legs spread, flicking his phone. His gaze was blank and unreadable.

Someone stood behind him, like a bodyguard.

Nearby, Roxanne greeted guests with a smile and sounded happy.

When Jonathan came in, her smile turned toward him. She stiffened for a second, then moved forward to meet him. "Mr. Curran, why didn't you tell me you were coming? I would have greeted you at the door."

Her eyes slid past him discreetly.

Only the assistant was behind him.

She couldn't tell if she was disappointed or relieved.

Jonathan wasn't fooled by her act. His voice was cold and sharp. "You have five minutes. Clear the guests."

" ... What did you say?"
