I checked my phone, Denise had sent a message.
“Kaylie, you were right. Caitlyn agreed to change the design to yours. They never intended to ask Anya to explain the plagiarism issue.”
I smiled slightly, picked up the red wine, thinking of Leland’s refined yet despicable nature, and drank it all in one gulp, closing my eyes.
The cool, bitter taste made me frown.”So bitter.”
Leland was stunned, his hand with the fork freezing. This is wine. Drinking like this will get you drunk.”
I giggled, I want to get drunk.”
At my stubbornness, Leland was stunned, then hugged me gently. “What’s wrong? Are you upset? I’m sorry, it’s my fault. I was focused on the company and neglected you. If I did anything else wrong, tell me, and I’ll change.”
I opened my mouth, big tears falling one by one. I wiped them away repeatedly.
If I told you, would you change?
Why didn’t you choose to confess?
If you gave up Caitlyn, I wouldn’t give up on you, even if we were divorced, you were still the best family to me in this world.
But you didn’t plan to do that, right?
I smiled bitterly, my heart aching painfully.
“Mr. Devil, it’s been a long time since you cooked for me. I’m really touched.”
Leland was flustered. It’s my fault. Please don’t cry, okay?”
I nodded firmly.”I won’t cry. From the time I was ten years old until now, we’ve been together for over a decade. The only thing I wanted was for us to
love each other, but now…”
Leland quickly wiped away my tears, looking like a guilty child.”We will always love each other.”
I bit my lip tightly, looking at Leland with blurred eyes, my mouth pouting because my heart ached so deeply. I poured another glass of red wine and drank it in one gulp.
Leland grasped my hand tightly.”Enough. Kaylie, stop it. You have a stomach problem, don’t you know?”
Tears flowed down my face. I sniffled in heartache, then burst into loud sobs.
Leland hadn’t confessed about his and Caitlyn’s affair. If he said today he would stop seeing Caitlyn, I would forgive him.
I admitted I was lowly in love, willing to sleep beside him even when he smelled of another woman’s perfume.
