Chapter 40
I couldn’t keep causing a scene. I was afraid he would notice something was wrong.
I hugged his neck and pretended to be irrational. “Leland, don’t make me angry again in the future. Today at the Regional Fashion Design Fair, you kept looking at that Caitlyn many times, and it upset me.”
Leland laughed. I could see he was relieved that I was upset over such a minor issue.
He probably felt lucky that I hadn’t noticed he and Caitlyn had been having an affair.
He returned to his gentle and decent manner.
“Alright, I knew something was bothering you today. It turns out you’re jealous. Sorry, it’s my fault. I promise that in the future when I’m with you, I’ll only look at you.”
I nodded. “No backing out. You must keep your promise. And don’t stay out all night. What if some woman seduces you?”
Leland laughed and kissed my forehead. “Honey, it won’t happen.”
Leland, I’m serious. If I find out you’ve cheated on me, unless you kill me, I’ll leave you forever and never forgive you.”
Leland’s heart was beating fast. This will never happen,” he quickly reassured me, but his avoiding eyes revealed his guilt.
Suddenly his phone rang, displaying “Client C.H.,” and with just a glance, I knew it was Caitlyn calling.
I knew he would go see her.
I yawned. Leland, I’m so tired. I want to sleep.”
“Oh, I’ll carry you to bed. It seems like a client’s call, probably some partnership details need discussing.”
I nodded.”Go ahead, don’t overexert yourself, and don’t come back too late.” As I spoke, I discreetly placed a small bug in Leland’s pocket.
He laid me on the bed.”Alright, sleep first. I’ll be back to join you soon.”
I obediently nodded, but as the car left the villa, the tears I hadn’t wiped away started flowing again.
“Don’t cry,” I told myself.
I wanted to keep him and prevent him from seeing Caitlyn, but he would leave regardless.
Caitlyn’s single message could make him leave me at any time.
The phone rang, and predictably, Caitlyn sent another message.
“See? You can’t keep him because he already belongs to me. The only thing he cares about now is me and our baby; you mean nothing to him in his heart.”
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, feeling a surge of resentment in my heart, but I knew I couldn’t afford to alert the enemy prematurely, I could hardly wait for the right moment to come so that I could strangle her with my own hands.
