Once a Doormat Now Untouchable (Caleb and Sydney) novel Chapter 205

"Really?" Sydney instinctively touched her face. "I don't think so. I've been eating well."

The fridge still held enough supplies for another two days. This New Year's, she and Tiffany had bought only snacks and fresh produce. Everything else came from the gifts Agatha and Eliana had sent.

Even so, Sydney felt she had gained weight.

Marcus chuckled. "Rest a few more days. Once work starts, you'll be busy all year again."

A medical clinic differed from other trades. Out of 365 days, only during New Year's could they truly take a break. At any other time, work could appear without warning.

Sydney had clinic appointments, livestream health talks, and now a pharmaceutical research project as well—enough to keep her constantly occupied.

Starting the car, she replied casually, "Being busy is good."

She preferred the rhythm of a full schedule.

By the time they reached the airport, traffic had ground to a standstill. The evening lights were already glowing when they picked up Alan and Eliana and returned to the city center.

Dinner had been arranged by Marcus at a restaurant known for its light, authentic southern dishes. The head chef was from the region, and his craft was impeccable.

When the four arrived, a hostess led them to a spacious, elegantly decorated private room.

Marcus handed the menu to Alan and Eliana with a warm smile. "Alan, Eliana, you haven't had a proper meal for days. Tonight, order whatever you like."

"Alright." Alan was never one for formalities, so he quickly placed the order, knowing everyone's tastes.

Sydney sat beside Eliana, looking attentive. "Eliana, are you really almost fully recovered?"

She worried Eliana might say so only to ease her mind.

After all, Caleb had cheated even during the marriage. Sydney was still young. Remarrying would be reasonable. A woman ultimately needed a home.

Marcus' utensils paused midair as his gaze flicked toward Sydney with a hint of hope.

She pressed her lips together. "I haven't thought about that yet. I just want to focus on finishing the pharmaceutical project for now."

"Here, have some fish." Marcus smiled and placed a piece of steamed fish onto her plate.

"Thank you."

Eliana noticed the look in his eyes and approved. "That's fine too. You're still young. No need to rush. While working, take your time figuring out what kind of partner you really want. When it comes to choosing a husband, character matters most. And if you're unsure, better to choose someone you already know well."

In her eyes, Marcus was the most suitable.
