Professor Andrew stood beside Professor Theodore when he heard our conversation. His eyes widened with recognition as he looked at me.

The crowd murmured at this revelation. While connections weren’t uncommon in pack circles, the academic

His voice grew colder. “You’re lucky not to be kicked out of the research team entirely.”

The assistant stepped closer, his tone warning. “Stop causing trouble, or you’ll find yourself completely

I was left standing outside the banquet hall doors. The sounds of celebration and academic discussion

Blackwood would protect you.”

He paused, seeming to remember something. “When I had Director Eric Taylor look after you-”

My confusion must have shown on my face. “Director Taylor? I thought that arrangement was your idea.”

Professor Theodore frowned. “It wasn’t. Someone else must have made that request.”

When I came back, I checked on David in his guest bedroom. His condition remained stable, though.
