On her way to Hamilton Estate, Victoria was brutally attacked by a few strangers, and she couldn't figure out who they were, so she pinned the blame on Nadine.
The people who attacked her were so heavy-handed that she was bedridden for a week. Cooped up at home, her mind was consumed with thoughts of how to take revenge on Nadine.
Realizing it was the day her grandmother would be discharged from the ICU, Victoria figured Nadine would be there to pick her up. "If I'm suffering, Nadine shouldn't have it easy either," she thought. Thus, she rushed to the hospital, determined to humiliate Nadine.
When she saw Nadine helping her grandmother, Victoria could no longer contain her anger and blurted out the fact that Jack was dead.
It all happened so suddenly that Nadine was completely caught off guard.
She stood frozen in place, her heart sinking like it had fallen into a frozen pit. Despite having mentally prepared herself countless times over the past six years, Nadine still couldn't accept that Jack had left her. Every time she thought of him, her heart twisted in pain, like a thousand arrows piercing through her.
When Victoria revealed the truth, it felt as if someone had hit her with a heavy blow. Nadine stood rooted to the spot, unable to find her voice for what seemed like an eternity.
After hearing her granddaughter's voice, Sophie refused to believe it at first. "What on earth are you on about, Victoria? Your older brother is on a special mission and won't be back anytime soon. He's been in touch with Nad. How could you say such things about him?
"What's gotten into you? You're becoming more unruly by the day! Take back what you just said. I won't allow you to speak about your older brother like that!"
Having single-handedly raised the three of them, she knew that Jack, as the older brother, was the most responsible and obedient. From the age of five, he had helped her with chores and taken care of his younger sister. Because he needed to support the family, he graduated high school and immediately enlisted in the military.
After joining the military, he never forgot to send money home, reminding Sophie to take good care of the two girls. Jack was the one who paid for Nadine's education.
"Nad, please tell me the truth!" Deep down, she already knew the truth. Her grandson was so caring. How could he possibly go six years without contacting her?
Nadine had always insisted that Jack was on a secret mission, claiming he could only contact her occasionally. But times had changed; there were so many ways to stay in touch. How could it be possible for him not to contact his family? How could she have fallen for such an obvious lie?
