In truth, Nadine had already guessed this was a trap when Evelyn first called her about working together. So, she chose to walk right into it, biding her time for this moment.
After walking out of the forensic department feeling completely at ease, Nadine made her way to the reception room, where two female police officers were waiting to take her statement.
A lawyer from Hamilton Group sat beside them, dressed in a suit. He looked at Nadine with a worried expression. He seemed like he wanted to say something, but he held his tongue.
Nadine smiled politely and took a seat across from the officers, her face glowing with confidence.
"I take it you're Nadine Scott. Are you the one who filed the report?"
Nadine nodded. "Yes, that's me. I'm the one who filed the report."
"Can you promise that everything you've said is true?"
Nadine nodded again. "I can."
"We've gone through the details and deeply sympathize with what you've been through. Is there anything we can do for you?"
Nadine pondered for a moment before responding sincerely, "I don't want Brad to go to jail or face criminal charges. As long as he agrees to the divorce, I won't press any further charges."
Her goal was simpleāget the divorce and stay far, far away from Brad. At this point, she was just one step away from achieving that, and she wasn't going to let this opportunity slip away.
Nadine didn't even spare him a glance. For the first time in a long while, she felt calm inside. "I've already given Brad the divorce agreement, but he refused to sign it. This has dragged on long enough, and I don't want to be held back by him anymore. I just want to end this marriage as soon as possible.
"If you can convince Brad to give me the divorce certificate, I'll drop the lawsuit and not hold him accountable for anything."
With that, she saw no reason to stay any longer and asked the female officers, "Is there anything else you need from me? If not, can I go now?"
The female officers double-checked the documents. "No, you're free to go."
Nadine smiled at them, rose from her seat, and walked out of the reception room.
