Please Give Me Another Chance, Mrs. Hamilton novel Chapter 727

Ever since Evelyn gave birth to Jean, she had never seen, nursed, nor allowed Jean to experience a single day of maternal love. Since learning that Jean was her long-lost daughter, she had tried to make up for the years she had been absent.

Evelyn felt indebted to Jean, wishing she could give her everything she had. Unfortunately, due to her status, she could never openly acknowledge Jean as her daughter. All she could do was compensate in other ways.

Now that her daughter was gravely ill, despite any resentment she harbored toward Daniel, she had no choice but to suppress it for the moment.

This was just how the world worked. The strong preyed on the weak. If one wasn't strong enough, it was only a matter of time before they were picked on. Evelyn and Daniel were a prime example of this dynamic. He was strong, while she was weak. And when it came to scheming, she was no match for him.

Being at someone's mercy, Evelyn felt like fish on a chopping board. What options did she have besides kneeling in submission?

"Daniel, I won't say anything else at this point. I'll do whatever you want, so please save Jeanie! I'm willing to accept any terms you propose." Evelyn knew the stakes—she had no way out and had to accept her defeat.

Daniel wasn't a heartless man. In truth, when he learned that Evelyn had another man, his guilt lessened considerably. Ever since Evelyn started taking care of Brad, she'd been in his house for over 30 years. He couldn't deny that she had put in her fair share of effort.

Had Evelyn not stepped in to help Jean against his family and had merely found someone else to satisfy her physical needs, he could have pretended nothing ever happened and let things continue as they were.

He couldn't give Evelyn intimacy or love. All he could give her was money. The fact that another man could offer her those things lifted some of the guilt off his shoulders.

If word got out that the lady of the Hamilton family had an illegitimate daughter and was involved with other men, it would only affect the company's stock prices. So, this matter had to be kept under wraps for now. He would reveal the truth once the storm had passed.

"Secondly, I want you to clarify what happened on New Year's Eve. You'll need to tell the press that you were manipulated by Jean into drugging Brad, and that he was a victim too."

After hearing those two conditions, Evelyn's heart sank, and she shook her head vigorously.

"There's no way I'm doing that! I won't let you ruin Jeanie's chances with Brad! This is even worse than killing her! I refuse to agree to your conditions!"
