Nadine tilted her head and looked at the man beside her. Brad's eyes were curved with a smile, which only made her confused.
"What do you want me to say? What's there to talk about?" Nadine asked. She and Brad weren't close, and they were far from being in a romantic relationship. At most, they were just strangers after their divorce.
What did he expect her to say? That the Earth was round? That roses were red?
"Mr. Hamilton, please get this straight—we're already divorced. We have nothing to do with each other anymore. Please don't come looking for me again, alright?" Nadine couldn't help but ask with a touch of pleading.
She had just managed to calm the deep hurt inside her heart. She was working hard to become the person she once was—the one who didn't love Brad.
Against all odds, she had shown some progress. But every time Brad showed up, he'd ruin her plans, and she'd need to put in much more effort to forget about him.
Sometimes, Nadine found Brad really annoying.
When she had loved him, he was cold and indifferent, ignoring her every single time. Now that she didn't love him anymore, he was shamelessly showing up to remind her of his existence. Wasn't this a little too pathetic?
Brad could see the sincerity in Nadine's eyes. He could sense she genuinely wanted to stay away from him.
Seeing the pleading in her gaze, his blood pressure immediately shot up. "What are you saying, Nadine? I come looking for you, and you tell me to stay away? Who do you think you are?"
After getting off the plane, Brad headed straight for his black Rolls-Royce. Once in the car, he didn't even glance at Nadine as he ordered the driver to step on the gas.
Just like that, Nadine was left alone at the airport. She watched the black Rolls-Royce drive away, slowly shrinking into a small black dot. Eventually, she lost sight of the car.
Nadine was feeling like she could bite someone's head off at that moment. After venting her anger for a while, she felt a little better. But she still had to drag her suitcase and hail a cab on her own.
The walk from the tarmac to the cab pick-up point took about half an hour. During that time, a few eager citizens recognized her from afar and called after her. "Nadine! Is that really you?"
That shout immediately drew all attention to her. A group of nosy reporters swarmed Nadine, trapping her in the middle. "Ms. Scott, can you confirm that you only used Mr. Hamilton as a substitute?"
