Potato let out a cold snort. “Lydia came all the way here to help your old madam, and this is how you treat her? Honestly, if that’s your attitude, maybe we should just walk away.”
Sweet Potato chimed in, “Do you realize how lucky you are to have Lydia here? That kind of luck only comes around once in a hundred lifetimes. Now you want her to put on a blindfold? Seriously? You’re really pushing it.”
Damien, noticing Lydia wanted to keep her Lydora leader identity under wraps, joined in with a frosty look. “She means everything to us. She showed up here to help, even though we didn’t want her to come. Not only do you refuse to show her any respect, you expect her to play by your rules? Unbelievable. Some people just don’t know how to be grateful.”
With the three of them ganging up on him, Scar was left feeling thoroughly humiliated.
Ezra thought they had a point. He glanced at Scar, who looked torn. “Uncle, just let them in. We’ll go through the back path to the courtyard.”
Scar could only nod. “Alright, fine.”
If Scar had known Lydia was the leader of Lydora, he wouldn’t have dared let her anywhere near Black Eagle’s gates, never mind sneaking her in through the back.
Inside the compound, Scar and Ezra led Lydia’s group down a side path. All around them were gardens, trees, and koi ponds. Lydia glanced around and noticed men in black stationed outside every building, watching them closely.
After five minutes or so, they stopped in front of a wooden house. The porch was held up by thick pillars, each one carved with strange symbols and totems, as if asking the heavens for protection. The steps leading up were made of smooth, weathered blue stone.
“Wait here. I’ll go let them know you’ve arrived.”
Lydia nodded and started handing out masks and protective suits to Potato and the others. Once everyone was geared up and disinfected, they actually did look like a real medical team.
Scar had already gotten permission from Black Eagle’s boss, so after a quick word inside, he hurried back out and waved them in.
The house was dimly lit, with the faint scent of herbs in the air. A man dressed all in black, only his eyes visible, stared them down as soon as they entered.
