To Lucinda, playing the piano was definitely not something you could pick up overnight. If you wanted to be truly great, you had to put in the work from the time you were a kid, just like she had. As for Lydia, well, she was just an uncultured country girl. Lucinda was convinced there wasn’t a musical bone in her body.
Kylie paused for a second, then said, “Your sister is always so busy. She doesn’t have time for these kinds of hobbies.”
Cameron, sitting next to Connor, quickly chimed in, “Exactly. If Lydia ever wanted to learn, we could bring in Maestro Richie to teach her. She’s smart enough, I’m sure she’d do well.”
Lucinda couldn’t help but scoff to herself. Lydia just didn’t have any music talent. Why did her parents sugarcoat it with all these fancy excuses? The whole group was so obviously biased toward Lydia, it was ridiculous.
Meanwhile, Lydia and Iceblade had already found Chris. He and his teammates were dressed in their racing suits, but two of them looked awful—slumped back in their chairs, faces pale as ghosts.
“Lydia!” Chris spotted her and hurried over, glancing at Iceblade following behind. “Who’s this?”
“This is Jay. He’s a racer too.”
Chris' eyes lit up. “Seriously?”
“Yeah. But first, let me check on those two.”
Lydia walked over to the pale teammates. “What did you guys eat this morning?”
“We had breakfast with Chris. Then, a little while ago, we got thirsty and drank half a bottle of water.”
“Where’s the water?”
Chris grabbed the bottle and handed it to her. Lydia twisted off the cap, took a sniff, and let out a cold laugh. “Just as I thought.”
Chris frowned. “Lydia, is something wrong with the water?”
“There’s magnesium sulfate in here. It’s a laxative. Right now, it’s just stomach cramps, but in about five or ten minutes, you’ll both be running for the bathroom.”
“But the bottle was sealed when we opened it.”
“It’s possible to open it, add the drug, and reseal it so no one can tell,” Lydia said. “Looks like Team Country D came ready to play dirty.”
