The two officials were so hyped, they forgot all about the long line of cars waiting behind them for inspection. Maybe people who don’t follow racing wouldn’t get how big a deal NO1 is, but these two definitely did.
It’s the number one racer in the world. That’s not just some title. That’s the stuff of legends.
This was unreal. It didn’t matter why NO1 suddenly showed up at the track today. What mattered was they were actually going to see her unleash her skills right here, right now.
Lydia, helmet on, just nodded. “Yeah.”
Instantly, the two officials squeezed in on either side of her flashy car, gave a big thumbs-up, and snapped a picture with her.
Up ahead, Rory noticed the commotion and scoffed. “Give me a break. What’s with the drama? They are about to crash and burn anyway.”
Once Lydia cleared inspection, it was Iceblade’s turn. He was a man of many names, and Jay was just one of them. He held an A-level license, but everyone knew his real skills were S-tier. Rumor had it he was friends with NO1. Not that he was friendly. Jay was all attitude, kept to himself, and if he didn’t like you, he made sure you knew it. Not the most popular guy around.
So when the two inspectors saw him, they were stunned but kept quiet. No one dared ask for a selfie. Still, inside, they were buzzing with excitement. This year’s race was going to be wild.
All twenty-six cars finally rolled into position. The qualifying round was about to go down. In big racing events, qualifying sets the starting order for the main race. Drivers push their cars to the limit, going for the fastest single lap to grab the best spots on the grid.
The starting lights flashed. Every eye in the stands locked on the cars, engines rumbling, hearts pounding right along with them.
Suddenly, the lights went dark. Go time!
The cars tore off the line, tires screeching, smoke swirling in their wake. Lydia’s team shot forward, taking the inside track and opening up a lead.
