Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 61

Lydia just watched them, her eyes full of defiance. A smirk tugged at her lips. “Jealous? Of her?”

Soren stared at her, eyes wide, and nodded. “Aren’t you? She’s the real Smith family heiress. She gets to be with me in the open, while you… you’re just someone I have to keep in the shadows.”

Sandy spotted the real anger in Soren’s eyes, and jumped in quickly. Her voice was trembling, almost crying. “Soren, just leave it. She’s going through a lot right now. She has to take care of her whole family. Maybe she really doesn’t have a choice.”

A loud slap cut through the air.

Sandy yelped. If Soren hadn’t been holding her up, she probably would have hit the ground. Her head was still ringing.

“Sandy, you’d better keep your mouth shut. Stay away from me.” Lydia’s voice was sharp and cold.

Sandy flinched, shrinking back into Soren’s arms, letting out quiet sobs.

Soren’s face twisted in anger. “Lydia, why are you hitting Sandy? She’s innocent. You stole eighteen years of luxury from her. Don’t blame her just because I chose her over you.”

Lydia couldn’t even be bothered to talk some sense into him. Just looking at Soren felt like a waste of her time.

“Do yourself a favor and look in the mirror sometime.”

She tossed the words over her shoulder, her voice dripping with contempt, and walked away. The way she carried herself, she could have been a queen.

Soren’s cheeks turned a furious, blotchy red. He shouted after her, “Lydia, you’re nothing but a country nobody. Sandy is the real Smith family heiress!”

Sandy grabbed Soren’s trembling hand, gently squeezing it. “Soren, please don’t blame my sister. She’s selling herself just to survive now. She probably has to deal with different men all the time. No wonder she’s so emotional. Life must be hell for her.”

Sandy thought to herself, Lydia must have shown up here with some man. She probably left alone so nobody would catch on. How else could Lydia get her hands on a million just for an entry fee? That was the only thing that made sense.

Soren’s expression twisted with disgust. “She’s shameless. Total trash. Sandy, you are so much better than her.”

Lydia stopped her bike, angling her headlights straight at them, and leaned on the horn.

The sudden light blinded the three guys. They started cursing, but the horn was so loud and sharp that their voices were completely drowned out.

“Are you crazy? Turn that thing off!”

“I said stop!”

“Let’s go take care of him!”

The three men, all big and muscular, shielded their faces from the glare and stormed toward Lydia, shouting threats.

Without hesitating, Lydia twisted the throttle. Her bike shot forward with a roar. The men jumped back in a panic, tripping over each other and landing in a heap on the ground, looking completely ridiculous.
