Monica hurried over to Lydia and shot Patricia a look. “You were bold enough to make a bet in front of everyone, but now that you lost, you’re suddenly all pitiful?”
Fiona jumped in. “When Lydia hit her first bullseye, you two said she just got lucky. You made her shoot ten, and she nailed every single one. Now what? Planning to weasel out?”
Daisy bristled. “Monica, Fiona, don’t you think you’re going too far? Patricia is a girl. How can you treat her like this in front of so many classmates? Isn’t that a bit much?”
Patricia’s eyes filled with gratitude as she looked at Daisy.
But Lydia just shrugged. “If you feel so sorry for her, why not split the punishment? Five ‘Your Highness’ each.”
Daisy froze, words stuck in her throat.
The scene instantly dragged her back to the humiliation of last night, kneeling and apologizing to Lydia. She wish she could wipe Lydia off the face of the earth.
Patricia actually looked at Daisy with a bit of hope, clearly wishing Daisy would step in for her.
But Daisy turned her head away without a hint of mercy. “Patricia, I tried.”
Tears slipped down Patricia’s cheeks. She looked to Jay, their silent instructor, hoping he’d step in.
“I’ll do what I promised. Can I at least wait until we’re back in the dorm?”
Jay’s face stayed blank. “A bet is a bet.”
Patricia’s last bit of hope vanished.
Later, at dinner, everyone was glued to their phones, scrolling through the school forum.
“This year’s freshman training is wild.”
