Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 75

As soon as the call ended, the two receptionists just froze. Eyes wide, jaws dropped, they kept staring at Lydia, needing a long moment to process what had just happened.

“You… you’re the new president sent from headquarters?” one of them finally managed to ask, her voice trembling.

Panic started bubbling up between them. They’d only heard yesterday that a new president was being transferred over, supposed to arrive in the next couple of days. Never in their wildest dreams did they imagine it would be someone who looked so young.

Rose just couldn’t believe it. “No way! There’s no way headquarters would send someone your age to run the company. You must be lying, just pretending to be the president. You’re a scammer!”

She turned to the receptionists, barking orders. “Where’s security? Why are they never around when they’re needed? How could they let a scammer stroll right in? Are they just slacking off all day?”

One of the receptionists stammered, “Please calm down, ma’am. Ben took a couple of days off, Will’s probably in the restroom, and the other two must have gone out for breakfast. I’ll call them right now.”

Rose’s temper only got worse. “Useless idiots. They wander around all day, but the minute you actually need them, they disappear. And you… get out. Right now. If you don’t leave, don’t blame me for what happens next.” Rose jabbed her finger at Lydia, like she was ready to throw her out herself.

Lydia just smirked. “I’m not the one who should leave. That would be you.”

“You—”

“Ms. Norwood!”

A new voice cut in, polite but urgent.

“Ms. Norwood, I’m so sorry. I should’ve called to check if you’d arrived. I apologize for making you wait.”

Rose was still shaking her head, barely out of her shock. “No, this can’t be. How can someone your age be our new president? You’re just a kid, you…”

Josef stepped up, explaining, “Ma’am, this is the new president. Headquarters sent her directly.”

He’d been shocked himself when he heard the news yesterday, but headquarters had insisted she was personally appointed by Mr. Norwood. She might be young, but she was brilliant. They were all told to do their best and not upset her.

Now, seeing her in person, she did look young, but there was something about her—this chill in the air, that made Josef uneasy.

With Josef’s confirmation, Rose had no choice. Even if she didn’t want to believe it, she had to accept the truth.
