Rebirth in 1986: Unforgettable Regrets novel Chapter 30

Chapter 30 - 30: Feeling Guilty About What?

Tang Yue stepped forward confidently. Although she was the same height as Zhao Xiaoyue, her presence was far stronger. She said deliberately, "You slandered me for stealing money, and you almost made me fall off the bed. As a normal person, shouldn't you apologize?"

"I..." Zhao Xiaoyue was about to retort.

Tang Yue interrupted, "Unless you are not a normal person, otherwise, everyone should be able to recognize their mistakes and correct them, right?"

Tang Yue turned to look at the people outside the dormitory who were watching the commotion and asked with a beaming smile.

"That's right, if you do something wrong, you should apologize." Someone spoke up.

Zou Xia chimed in as well.

Suddenly, everyone was pressuring Zhao Xiaoyue and Liu Fang to apologize.

Zhang Minmin, with her impressive family background, had just learned that it wasn't Tang Yue who stole, and with a stomp, she went back to her bed to sleep soundly.

Zhang Minmin was untouchable, but Zhao Xiaoyue and Liu Fang were just two little lackeys!

"Apologize."

"Apologize."

Outside the dorm, everyone was in unison.

Tang Yue playfully blinked and said, "We are all students of Wangjiang County First Middle School, and it is the best school. I believe the students here must also have the best manners."

"I'm sorry," Zhao Xiaoyue murmured with pursed lips.

Liu Fang also mumbled an apology.

"I only hear two mosquitoes buzzing," Tang Yue teasingly dug at her ear.

Zhao Xiaoyue glared at her.

"I didn't hear anything," called out the loudest voice among the girls outside the dormitory.

Tang Yue turned her head and smiled at the girl.

Zhao Xiaoyue yelled out in frustration, "I'm sorry, are you happy now?"

"Just so, we apologize, we didn't do it on purpose, and how were we to know you didn't steal the money?" Liu Fang said discontentedly.

"Would you feel okay if I baselessly suspected you of stealing someone else's money?" Tang Yue challenged them.

Liu Fang: "..."

Zhao Xiaoyue: "..."

Both of them fell silent; if someone else doubted them, they would have ended up fighting.

The people outside the dormitory also gradually dispersed.

Zou Xia squeezed in and said, "Xiao Yue, are you okay?"

"I'm fine." Tang Yue smiled and shook her head, "I was a bit panicked when they pulled me off the bed just now, I don't know martial arts or have an iron defense."

"Xiao Yue, you're just too kind," Zou Xia said a few words to her before returning to the dormitory, as it was getting late and they still had classes the next day.

At the same time, Xu Zhenzhen felt somewhat apprehensive; the fact that she was late earlier—surely Tang Yue... hadn't noticed anything, right? 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

Everyone spoke one after another; although Tang Yue didn't socialize much with others on regular days, she was very patient when explaining any issues they didn't understand. Furthermore, with her good looks and sweet smile, and without getting into quarrels or arguments with others.

Everyone had a pretty good impression of Tang Yue.

"Thank you all for believing in me, however, I do remember something," Tang Yue said with a light smile, revealing dimples as her gaze landed on Xu Zhenzhen.

Xu Zhenzhen's heart skipped a beat, she had a feeling that whatever Tang Yue was going to say wouldn't be good and she hurriedly said: "Xiao Yue, I believe in you as well."

"Last night, after I returned to the dorm with you, I took the bucket to get some hot water and was by the stairs on the first floor when you ran over. I remember you were panting," Tang Yue said slowly, making Xu Zhenzhen's face instantly change color.

Yang Qingqing immediately spoke up: "The ones who returned to the dorm last night were you and Tang Yue. Tang Yue went to get water first, Xu Zhenzhen, what were you doing in the dorm after that?"

Tang Yue's eyes swept towards Yang Qingqing; it was unexpected that Yang Qingqing—who usually didn't stand out—would be so supportive at a crucial moment. With just a hint from Tang Yue, Yang Qingqing immediately caught on.

Zhang Minmin also couldn't help but move closer to Xu Zhenzhen, her suspicious gaze fixed on her. She always felt that the money wasn't just stuck on a shoe sole, but had no further evidence to prove it.

"I didn't steal the money," Xu Zhenzhen protested loudly in a panic.

"I didn't say you stole money either," Tang Yue blinked and asked, "I just want to know what you were doing in the dorm afterwards. Why are you so anxious to refute, looking so guilty?"

"I'm not," Xu Zhenzhen swiftly protested and, seeing the looks from the people around her, felt that everyone was suspecting her. Her eyes quickly reddened and she said, "Xiao Yue, why do you slander me like this? I believe in you, but you shouldn't be throwing dirt on me."

"Xiao Yue, I was only a few minutes late, how could you accuse me of stealing the money?" Xu Zhenzhen put on a vulnerable facade, her tearful eyes giving her a pitiful appearance.

Tang Yue smiled lightly, her eyes however cold and indifferent; always playing the fragile card, and that's how she had been fooled round and round in her past life. She softly said, "Zhenzhen, just as you believe in me, I also believe in you."

"Tang Yue, you should have mentioned this last night," Yang Qingqing picked up the conversation: "Last night Zhao Xiaoyue and the others almost dragged you out of bed. She clearly had the biggest suspicion, yet she didn't say anything, probably trying to make them suspect you on purpose."
