Rebirth Of The Heiress And The Tycoon's Lover (Alina) novel Chapter 45

Chapter 45

ALINA’S POV,

I had just finished getting ready for bed and had stepped out of the bathroom, only to see Lucian sitting on the bed with a frown on his face and an object in his hand.

Upon closer inspection, I noticed it was my earring.

“Oh my goodness, I thought I lost it, where did you find that?” I asked, walking over to him and gently taking the diamond earring from his hand.

I had realized it was missing when I was taking off the other one just a few minutes ago.

“I found it earlier today at the venue of the gala.” He responded.

“Really?” I asked, a little confused, admiring the simple yet expensive accessory.

“Yes,” he said evenly, “in the same room where Vaughn’s badly beaten body was found.”

I froze.

My head snapped toward him, eyes wide, only to find him already staring at me.

He knows.

He knew I had been in that room, so why hadn’t he said anything until now?

“It’s not what you’re thinking I swear.” I rushed out, taking a few hesitant steps toward him.

“You can’t possibly know what I’m thinking.” He chuckled. His tone was cold, his expression blank, and that scared me more than anything.

“Please, just let me explain…” I pleaded in a soft but desperate tone.

“Okay. I’m all ears.” He said, his unflinching gaze latched on mine.

I knew at this point, I had to come clean and tell him everything, and I meant everything.

I took a deep breath, “After you left, my parents came to talk to me for a couple of minutes. After that, I decided to socialize a little, but eventually, I needed to use the restroom,” I began. Lucian’s eyes stayed on me, giving me his full attention. “I was on my way when Adrian pulled me into a room. I didn’t know it was him at first, the room was dark. I slapped him when he tried to kiss me-”

“Vaughn laid his hands on you?” Lucian growled as his fists tightened at his sides.

I hesitated a bit, torn about whether I should tell him the part where Adrian had tried to force himself on me.

“What else happened, Alina?” Lucian asked, noticing the hesitation on my face.

“I… I don’t-”

“Alina.” He cut me off, his voice sharp with warning.

“Then he tried to force himself on me when I told him it was over between us.” I blurted out, my voice trembling slightly.

Adrian was getting too clingy, which was strange, so I decided to just cut him off. He was a pawn in Seraphina’s game anyway, so I didn’t see the need to waste energy on him.

My jaw tightened as I thought about it. He’ll get what’s coming to him. But Seraphina was the main target.

What pissed me off was when I told that fool I didn’t love him anymore, and he had the audacity to bring up the fact that he saved me from drowning, and that I owed him my life for that. As if I didn’t know it hadn’t been him who saved me all those years ago.

It had been Lucian.

He was so delusional, ranting about how he knew I loved him and that I was only pushing him away because Lucian told me

“Is he seeking death?” Lucian finally gritted out, his voice trembling after his unsuccessful attempt to reign in his anger.

“He didn’t succeed, though. Louis came right in time and helped me.” I quickly added.

Lucian frowned. “Louis was the one who did that to him?” He inquired.

“Yes,” I confirmed. “It was after that he led me to the balcony. We were there for a few minutes before you arrived.” I finished.

“So you lied about not knowing Louis when I asked earlier.” He accused.

“Yes,” I admitted. “I didn’t want you to get upset. Besides, it wasn’t totally a lie, I had just learned his name before you came.” I tried to defend myself.

Lucian nodded slowly, deep in thought.

“How did Louis know you needed help?” He questioned, repeating the same question I had asked Louis earlier.

“Well, he said he was passing by when he saw Adrian pulling me into the room.” I recited the answer Louis had given me.

Lucian was quiet for a moment, clearly processing everything I had just told him.

Then he spoke.

“I

get that Louis, or whatever his name is, saved you… and I’m grateful for that,” He spoke in a tight and guarded tone. “But I still want you to stay away from him. I don’t trust him.”

“I will.” I agreed without any form of reluctance.

Lucian had never been wrong about someone before. Maybe he was asking me to stay away from Louis out of jealousy, or maybe it was instinct. Either way, I didn’t care.

I was going to listen.

“I’m so sorry I lied to you.” I squatted in front of him, placing my hands gently on his thighs.

“Why did you then?” He asked, tilting his head slightly, his gaze scanning my face with a silent intensity.

He looked so cute at that moment, like a curious puppy, and I had to fight the urge to pinch his cheek.

“I didn’t want you to worry, that’s why,” I said truthfully. “Plus, I knew if I had told you what happened at the party, you would’ve gone back and beaten Adrian some more.”

“Why? You feel sorry for him?” Lucian’s voice tightened, his jaw clenching slightly.

“Of course not!” I sputtered, appalled. “I just don’t want you staining your hands with blood.” I told him softly.

Adrian’s death wasn’t worth carrying on his conscience, not for a man like Lucian.

“So… do you have anything else to tell me?” He asked after a moment, his eyes narrowing slightly.

“No, that’s everything, I swear.” I said, raising three fingers like a solemn oath.

“Are you sure?” He sounded calm, too calm if you ask me, as if he was giving me one last chance to come clean.

“I’m sure.” I said with a smile, hoping to ease the tension.

I had told him everything that happened.

“All right then,” He said smoothly. “I take it you have no intention of telling me about your new fashion line Alinova… oh, or how you were almost drugged while having lunch with that sister of yours at the hotel I met you at a week ago?”

His tone was so casual it sent a cold shiver down my spine, but there was no mistaking the anger coating every word that just came out of his mouth.

The smile on my face vanished. My legs turned to jelly, giving out beneath me, and I fell back on my ass onto the floor, staring up at him with wide, horrified eyes.
