Rebirth Of The Heiress And The Tycoon's Lover (Alina) novel Chapter 46

Chapter 46

ALINA’S POV.

The smile on my face vanished. My legs turned to jelly, giving out beneath me, and I fell back on my ass onto the floor, staring up at him with wide, horrified eyes.

“I… I…” I couldn’t form words.

“I guess I was right.” He said dryly, standing up.

“No, Lucian, wait!” I scrambled to my feet, grabbing his hand before he could touch the door handle.

I almost stumbled back when I saw the look in his eyes.

No, it wasn’t his usual cold look, I would have preferred that to the current look in his eyes.

Mistrust.

“I am exhausted, Alina.” He sighed.

Damn. I hated it when he called me by my name.

“I know, but please don’t leave,” I begged, as my grip tightened on his hand. “We talked about communication, remember?” I reminded him in a soft, almost desperate tone.

“Don’t talk to me about communication, Alina,” he gritted out, shooting me a glare. “I have been nothing but open with you. You, on the other hand, have been scheming and hiding things from me. I don’t know what’s up with you, and I honestly am not trying to control what you do in your spare time, but I don’t understand why I’m not the first person you think of when you’re in trouble or need help.”

“Lucian-”

“I understand that you don’t love me. That much is clear,” he interrupted, his voice breaking just slightly. “But at the very least, let me fulfill one of my duties as a fiancé, and protect you.”

But that wasn’t true.

His tone was filled with so much hurt that it pulled at my heartstrings. My eyes welled up with tears.

“Lucian, I swear, it’s not the way you’re thinking it is. About Alinova, it genuinely escaped my mind to mention it to you.” I tried to explain, my voice shaking.

“Clearly.” He scoffed.

“And about Seraphina… I had it all covered. I didn’t want to bother you with something so insignificant.” I finished.

“Why is it so hard for you to understand that nothing relating to you is insignificant?” He said, his voice raw

“What I’m trying to understand is how you find it so easy asking every other person for help except me. If I wasn’t informed by the realtor helping you search for an office space, I wouldn’t have known that you needed help.”

Hold on…

“Wait, you’re the reason I got an office space in Virelan Square?” I asked, shocked.

“Of course, What kind of fiancé would I be if I owned a building and my fiancée is looking for space, huh?” He scoffed.

“Wait… you own that building?” I sputtered, stunned.

There really was a lot I didn’t know about my fiancé. Just how wealthy was he?

I should have known it was him, it wasn’t easy getting a place at the Virelan Square.

“That’s not the point, Alina.” He said, running a frustrated hand through his hair.

“I know that I keep messing up, but I am trying, baby.” I grabbed his hands, clinging to him like he was my lifeline, which he was. “I’m so used to getting things done myself that I sometimes forget that I’m not alone anymore. I know I keep saying sorry, but I mean it, Lucian. It’s not my intention to keep hurting or breaking your trust.”

The truth was… this revenge was mine. I didn’t want Lucian getting tangled in it. I wanted to get it done as quickly as possible so I could completely focus on working on our relationship.

“You have to remember that you’re not alone, Dollface.” He said, pulling his hands from mine and cupping my face instead, his thumbs brushing my cheeks softly.

I smiled softly at the endearment I had grown to love. “I love when you call me that.”

“You used to hate the name. What changed?” Lucian chuckled, his lips curving into a small, amused smile.

“Well, I guess it’s not as bad as I originally thought.” I flashed him a sheepish smile.

“Yeah right.” He scoffed, then his face went serious again.

“Come to me whenever you need anything, Dollface. I mean it. And even if you can’t get a hold of me, then reach out to Ace.”

“I will, I promise.” I told him with a nod.

Weeks flew by quickly, and although things were still a little awkward between Lucian and me, he had helped a lot with the planning of the fashion show, which was now less than a week away.

Apparently, things get done faster when his name is mentioned. I wish I had known that earlier.

“Where are we at, Mia?” I asked the girl who had been doing everything to make this planning go smoothly.

“We’re at refreshments, ma’am.” She responded efficiently as always.

“You look exhausted.” I pointed out, noting the eye bags she was spotting under her eyes.

“Actually, I’m all right, ma’am. Mr. Blackwood’s help has made this a lot easier.” She said with genuine gratitude.

“You can take a day off since we don’t have much left to do.” I suggested kindly.

“I’m fine, ma’am, I promise.” She smiled warmly at me.

“Are you sure?” I asked, tilting my head with concern.

“Absolutely.” She grinned.

“All right then.” I chuckled lightly. “Have you sent the invitation to the ladies?” I asked.

“I have, ma’am,” She confirmed. “I did that yesterday. We’re supposed to receive a ‘thank you’ basket from them today.”

The ladies I was talking about were the same ones I met at the gala. If there was anybody I’d want to be at the fashion show, it would be them.

“That’s good.” I nodded, pleased. “So, about the refreshments, let’s just go for finger food and pastries.” I suggested. “Make sure there’s salad on the menu. We know how some ladies are when it comes to their weight.” I added, rolling my eyes.

“Will do, ma’am.” Mia chuckled.

“Oh, and make sure you add gluten-free meals to the menu, and vegan-accepted meals too.” I added thoughtfully.

Mia nodded, typing everything into her iPad.

“How about drinks?” She asked.

“Mostly champagne and fruit juice.” I shrugged.

“All right then, I’ll get to it.” She said, already stepping into motion.

“Hold on.” I said before she could leave.

“I’m going to grab lunch. Do you want me to pick up something for you?” I asked.

“Uhm, a burger and a cup of coffee would be nice.” She smiled at me, her tone light but exhausted.

“Is that all you’re going to have?” I stared at her in disbelief.

She was almost always on her feet, constantly moving and burning through calories like crazy, and she was just going to have a burger?

“I’ll get you chicken and fries and an energy drink to add to that poor choice of yours.” I told her, grabbing my purse.

“That would be nice.” She giggled at my words. “Thank you, ma’am.”

“I don’t need you passing out on me before our big day now, do I?” I joked, winking at her as I made my way out of the office.

“Where to, madam?” Jordan asked as soon as I stepped out of the elevator.

“Nowhere far, Jordan. Just around the block I want to grab some lunch.”

“All right then. Let’s go.” He said, already walking ahead with purposeful strides.

“You don’t need to go with m… you know what? Never mind, let’s go.” I muttered, cutting myself off when I saw the look he

gave me.

Jordan may be my newest ally, but he did everything he could to make sure he didn’t get in trouble with Lucian. The man wasn’t even here, but Jordan acted like Lucian was watching him from the shadows.

I ate my lunch at the restaurant and grabbed a to-go bag for Mia before heading to the coffee shop next door to get her drink.

“I knew that was you.” A cheerful voice, one I had hoped I’d never hear again, spoke behind me.

Oh come on.
