Sun Chan was worried about Gu Junming, and she didn’t sleep well all night. The next day, she had a bit of a cough.
Guihua said, "You should rest. Take care not to get sick."
"No need, I’d only worry more if I stayed at home." Sun Chan still decided to continue selling fruit, and on the way, she bought a dozen or so canning jars from the supply store, intending to make canned fruit to sell.
Additionally, she remembered that she hadn’t mailed the letter to Yang Liu, so she patted her own head and sent it off.
She pushed her bicycle along the streets, selling fruit, not just in the alleys but also on the main roads. By the end of the morning, business was quite good. At noon, she didn’t go home to eat; she bought a bun from a bun stall and ate it dry. Around three in the afternoon, the sky began to darken, and she went home, still scared from the last incident with Wang Dabao.
Guihua had already rented her shop. Seeing Sun Chan return, she smiled and said, "How’s the selling? Tomorrow, come and see the new inn with me. I’m going to do it up well!"
Sun Chan was delighted to hear this, "That’s great news! Do you know how much money it cost?"
"I practically invested all my savings into it," Guihua smiled, "If this doesn’t work out, I’ll be penniless and end up selling fruit with you."
Sun Chan quickly laughed, "No way, you’re amazing, Sister Guihua. You won’t lose money."
"Don’t worry, when I do things, I do them decisively. Even if I lose, I won’t regret it. I’m way better than that Wang Dabao, just a useless fool who still wants to do business. He’ll lose everything sooner or later," she sneered.
Sun Chan laughed, "He’s indeed not great, but he’ll know your worth sooner or later."
"Let’s not talk about him, let’s make dinner."
The two of them made dinner together.
After dinner, Sun Chan started counting the money. Today, she calculated and realized she had sold thirty jin of fruit. After deducting costs, she had a net profit, which was more than the hundred or so yuan that a worker earned monthly. Sun Chan thought, now she could open a bank account and deposit the money.
Whether for future schooling or marriage, money was essential... The thought of marriage made her think of Gu Junming, and her face warmed. She was worried about him being on a mission, her mind was all over the place.
Guihua, after washing the dishes, saw Sun Chan staring blankly at the money on her bed and smiled, "What are you thinking?"
"Nothing much, I just feel that selling fruit, though tiring, really makes money."
"You call this making money? Wait till I open the inn; then you’ll know what real earnings are," Guihua said confidently.
Sun Chan nodded and smiled, "I believe you. I’ll work hard too."
The two tidied up and went to sleep. Sun Chan still missed him very much and didn’t sleep well.
Gu Junming, who was starving, devoured two or three eggs right away, since they didn’t get cold easily. The pancakes had been kept in the car and were still warm, so Gu Junming gobbled them up, eating pickles alongside while looking at the socks, feeling a warmth in his heart.
It wasn’t just Gu Junming; Wang Hu and Yan Kai were also there, albeit in different directions.
Wang Hu went to a steel factory to rescue some valuable machinery, while Yan Kai helped maintain order. During an earthquake, there are both good people and not-so-good ones. Some might use the opportunity to loot, so precautions were necessary.
So, the three didn’t run into each other, but they all understood that this was a good opportunity, and none wanted to lose. They aimed to do their best.
Faced with such a major event, Yan Kai couldn’t deal with Yang Hongying’s matter.
Gu Juntao wanted to go, but Wang Guihua had someone hold him back, "You’ve never done this kind of work, so why go and cause trouble?"
She had just returned from the hospital, looking very worn out, having broken down several times over her son and Yang Hongying. Her only thought now was to control her son and stop him from messing up further. Her previous education was too lenient, leading the child to act on whims and make mistakes. She needed to be stricter in the future!
Gu Juntao was agitated, "Mom! My big brother and Yan Kai went! I’m a soldier too, why won’t you let me go?"
"Enough, you know why you became a soldier, don’t you? You’re not suited for it; just stay safely in the rear," Wang Guihua dismissed her son’s thoughts, he’s simply not cut out for it.
Gu Juntao looked incredulously at his mother, "You look down on me that much? Am I that foolish?"
