At lunch, Sun Chan and I cooked some noodles, also made some for Guihua and Yang Liu. We sautéed some cabbage in the pot and added eggs—simple, but it tasted pretty good. We mixed in some homemade chili sauce, and it was delicious.
The four of us chatted as we ate, and Guihua, who loves to joke around, made the atmosphere lively.
Guihua glanced at the fruits, "Are they all sold out? When is Han Dong bringing you more?"
"We’ll just wait. If not, I’ll go get some myself." It’s still New Year, so I didn’t want to trouble Han Dong.
Just as we were talking about Han Dong, he walked in, and everyone laughed upon seeing him.
Han Dong brought in two boxes of oranges and a box of bananas, "These are the best. You sell them first. I’ll bring you some pineapples later; they should sell well."
"These are such valuable fruits; I’m afraid of losing money," Sun Chan said with a smile.
Pineapples are expensive, and ordinary folks might not want to buy them, but Han Dong waved it off, "You don’t get it. Some fruits are for the rich. If you have them, they’ll come to you. Trust me, you’ll be fine."
"Alright then, if you have lemons, bring me a few too."
"Okay." Han Dong had the fruits put down. Seeing everyone there and with noodles still in the pot, he quickly took off his coat.
"You’re eating? Perfect, I’m hungry. Give me a bowl."
Yang Liu felt a bit awkward seeing him, but after what happened last time, she had come to terms with it. I like you, but if you don’t like me, that’s fine. We can still be friends, so she greeted him with a smile.
Han Dong naturally didn’t mind, jokingly saying, "Haven’t seen you in days, why did you gain weight?"
Yang Liu blushed, "I might have been eating a lot recently."
"Happy heart, healthy weight. Haha." Han Dong glared at Guihua, "Get me some noodles. Am I invisible to you?"
"Too late! There’s none left for you," Guihua laughed.
"Who says! Brother, let me try your noodles." Han Dong shamelessly took Gu Junming’s bowl, but Sun Chan had baked some sweet potatoes, which were delicious. Gu Junming didn’t mind, eating sweet potatoes and chatting quietly with Sun Chan.
Han Dong kicked Gu Junming’s foot, "I don’t come by often, and I even bring fruits, yet you’re ignoring me?"
"Why are you acting like a woman, Gu Junming is about to be not right, let them say a few words, and you can’t stand it," Guihua said, giggling, "Do you perhaps like someone and have some thoughts?"
Han Dong laughed, "No, I just haven’t seen my brother and sister-in-law in a while and wanted to chat."
Guihua smirked but didn’t expose his feelings for Sun Chan, considering Yang Liu was still there. Joking about it wasn’t appropriate. Though no one spoke of it, Guihua had long noticed the love triangle.
Gu Junming said, "You’re not getting any younger after the New Year, work hard, find a partner to ease your parents’ minds."
"Don’t worry about me, brother. You should worry about yourself. I heard you arrested Zhao Feitian, and the Yang Family isn’t too happy."
Gu Junming frowned slightly. Guihua was unaware of the situation, so Sun Chan briefly explained, "They arrested a human trafficker who was a relative of the Yang Family."
Gu Junming helped Sun Chan clean up the dishes, "Focus on your studies. I’m returning to the unit tomorrow. Call me if you need anything. I’ll come see you on the weekends. Don’t skip meals."
Sun Chan smiled and nodded, "Got it. I’m not a kid anymore."
"Then I won’t nag, but if you don’t tell me, I won’t be happy."
No matter how long they spent together, they never felt bored. Even when not saying a word, it felt comfortable.
In the afternoon, Yan Kai came by. Seeing them, he was stunned. He just came to buy some fruit but unexpectedly ran into them, so they exchanged a few pleasantries.
"I didn’t know you’d be selling fruits here. Since I’m an old customer, shouldn’t I get a discount?"
"Look at that, take them; they’re not anything precious." Sun Chan picked out a few big red apples and some oranges for Yan Kai. She didn’t weigh them, indicating she wasn’t going to charge him.
Yan Kai didn’t hold back, took them, and then said to Gu Junming, "Did you hear about that Zhao Feitian thing?"
"Yes. Apparently, he refuses to admit anything, but some leads were found. The Yang family seems unwilling to save him, so it looks like he’ll be convicted," Gu Junming said.
"Someone like that should’ve been caught long ago. But since we went to the Yang family to arrest him, won’t this be bad for the Yang family? If Yang Xiong has any objections..."
Gu Junming said, "We’re doing our duty. We can’t avoid arresting someone just because we’re afraid of offending others." After hesitating a moment, Gu Junming shared what Han Dong said.
