Can’t compare to the past, but the two are doing alright. The furnishings inside are a bit old, but at least they’re spotless. There are a few flower pots on the windowsill, too bad they haven’t bloomed. There are a few cold dishes on the table, and a fragrant aroma wafts from the kitchen.
Zhao Jieyun came in and laughed: "Hurry up, dry your hair, wash your hands, and let’s eat."
Sun Chan hurriedly laughed: "I didn’t get drenched."
"Still, better be careful! If there’s cold medicine, take a pill quickly." Yang Dongfeng said, "So you don’t catch a cold later."
"Thanks, but I don’t need it." Sun Chan and Yang Dongfeng still feel a bit awkward around each other.
Yang Dongfeng knows the past hurt Sun Chan deeply, so he didn’t say much, just smiled and brought out the pill.
Sun Chan couldn’t refuse his kindness, so she took it.
Just as the three finished tidying up, there was a knock on the door. Zhao Jieyun went to open it and couldn’t help but laugh.
"What are you doing, chasing the bride all the way here? Can’t bear to be apart?"
Turns out, Gu Junming wasn’t at ease and borrowed a car to come pick her up.
He chuckled: "At home, I was too lazy to eat by myself, came over to bum a meal."
Zhao Jieyun laughed: "Got it, without your wife, food isn’t seasoned well."
Gu Junming smiled and handed over a bag of fruits: "Our workplace gave these out. Try them. If they’re tasty, send some to Grandpa’s side."
Zhao Jieyun laughed and took it: "Seems like there’s mango in here too? That’s rare, let me wash it so we can have some after our meal. Hurry in!"
With a smiling face, she took the fruits into the kitchen. Sun Chan blushed and glared at Gu Junming, heading to the kitchen to fetch bowls.
Seeing Gu Junming made Yang Dongfeng even more awkward: "You’ve come?"
He used to make trouble for Gu Junming, but thankfully the past is behind them.
Gu Junming called him Dad, acting like it’s nothing.
The four of them had a meal together, chatting and laughing, not too awkward, and then Gu Junming took her back.
The room has one bedroom and a living room, and she could manage a night on the sofa herself. But adding Gu Junming, it couldn’t fit.
Fortunately, the rain outside stopped by then, so Zhao Jieyun saw them off. Coming back, she saw Yang Dongfeng standing by the window watching their car, his gaze deep, pondering something.
Zhao Jieyun sighed: "If only Yang Yun could be like this, it would be great. Her messing up good days like this."
Her husband was washing his face nearby and glared: "Quit babbling! What for a fight between a good couple?"
"That pretty yet restless wife. If I were her husband, I wouldn’t be pleased, seeing how she doesn’t look like she’s living properly. Looks nice on the outside, but really isn’t decent." After saying that, she chuckled. Who could match me at running a household?
Zhuang Lin’s husband frowned: "How’s it any of your business what goes on in other houses? Seem anxious at any sign of trouble, I’ll tell you, if you’re idle and bored, find a job and stop gossiping!"
Zhuang Lin, annoyed: "I plan to open a grocery shop; how can I work? Isn’t it because you earn less, and I have to do this?"
"Be quiet! I earn less, yet you aren’t starving, are you? You’re pinching every penny from my parents, obsessed with money! Dissatisfied with me not earning enough, go find someone rich if you can, but afraid you can’t do it! With no class as a military wife, an eyesore!" With that, he walked to the bedroom.
Zhuang Lin chased, furious: "You claim not to care about money, so noble, yet pushing me to find a job? Because you envy other women’s earning power?"
Just then, a car engine sounded outside. They turned to see Gu Junming and Sun Chan laughing as they alighted, hand in hand, returning home.
Her husband coldly laughed: "See, they are doing well. And look at your thoughts, wishing others’ trouble; disappointed, huh? If nothing, stop gossiping, be a good example for our son."
Zhuang Lin, upset, shouted: "What have I done, why treat me so? Everyday washing clothes, cooking, serving you and our son—I’m guilty for that?"
Her husband ignored her, directly into the bedroom. But she followed, arguing, occasionally hitting.
Eventually, he grew impatient, pushed Zhuang Lin: "You, comparing with Sun Chan? You might look better, but others have skills. Do you have more education, manners? That day at their place, did you see the tasty meal and tidy room? What do you have to compete? Stop badmouthing behind others’ backs unless you want me to be rude!"
