Sun Chan had just gotten up and was sitting there drinking porridge. Seeing her parents arrive, she was stunned and quickly went to greet them.
"What brings you here?"
Zhao Jieyun just sighed, while Yang Dongfeng sneered, "I was feeling suffocated, so I came here to sit for a while."
The couple was taken aback; Yang Dongfeng rarely acted like this.
Sun Chan had them sit down and made each of them a cup of tea, placing it in front of them. "Did Yang Yun do something again?"
"Hehe. My good daughter! She really— I don’t even know what to say anymore!" Yang Dongfeng gritted his teeth, wearing an unusually strange smile on his face.
Zhao Jieyun sighed, her eyes reddened; "Yang Yun brought someone home, and it turned out to be an enemy of our Yang Family. We really are cursed."
Sun Chan didn’t expect Yang Yun to do such a thing and didn’t know about any enemies of the Yang Family, so she just frowned slightly.
Zhao Jieyun said that just now, Yang Yun came home with Fang Guanghui. Fang Guanghui came with gifts, looking elegant and amiable, so much so that no fault could be found.
But Yang Dongfeng couldn’t stand it and pointed to the door, telling them to leave: "I told you, if you’re with this person, don’t come for the New Year. Are you deaf? Or have you forgotten completely?"
Yang Yun was instantly furious, "We came with genuine intentions to celebrate the New Year and even bought all these goods, and you just kick us out like this?"
"I won’t take back what I said, get out!"
Yang Yun started wailing in the room, wrestling with her parents, crying, smashing things in the room, saying they didn’t care about her, and forcing her to break up when she was clearly unhappy.
"I finally found a good person, and this is how you push me; you just can’t stand to see me a bit happy?"
"Do you know who you brought home?!" Yang Dongfeng shouted, "He’s an irreconcilable enemy of our family! His father and grandfather were agents who killed so many people back then. Do you have a conscience?"
Yang Yun, infuriated, rolled her eyes dramatically, "That’s ancient history now! Who still cares about that?"
Fang Guanghui also frowned slightly, "My father’s and grandfather’s identities are not definitive now, they’re deceased. Please don’t wrongfully accuse them, sir."
"Bogus accusations?" Yang Dongfeng sneered, "The evidence was all destroyed by them. I saw it with my own eyes. Fang Guanghui, I know clearly why you’re approaching my daughter. Let me tell you, I disown this daughter! Consider her never born! You can’t harm the Yang family, and if you dare do anything to her, I will never forgive you!"
Fang Guanghui nonchalantly wrapped an arm around Yang Yun’s waist, "The two of us are meant to be together after all. If you want to break us up over past grudges, I have nothing more to say, as long as your conscience is clear. You don’t understand the love between me and Yang Yun."
Zhao Jieyun saw and was really worried, wanting to go to the hospital, but he refused, so they came to see if Sun Chan was back instead.
"I thought Junming’s vacation should be over soon, so I came to check. Please help persuade your father, I’m out of words. Your father is getting older and not in good health..." Zhao Jieyun choked up.
Sun Chan sighed, looking at Yang Dongfeng, who was standing at the window with his hands behind his back, gazing into the distance.
Sun Chan hesitated for a moment before saying, "Let Gu Junming try to persuade him, I don’t know what to say either. I’ll make something to eat. You two haven’t had much to eat, right? Stay here for the night, there’s plenty of space." Although Yang Dongfeng had changed, Sun Chan wasn’t familiar with him, and there was always a barrier. She could make small talk, but deep conversations were off-limits.
"I’ll go with you." Zhao Jieyun pulled Sun Chan into the kitchen.
Gu Junming walked over and said, "I’m not really good at comforting people, but I know one thing: children and grandchildren have their own paths of fortune. No one can control their affairs. Let nature take its course. If you keep all these things in your heart, you’ll only feel miserable. Whatever Fang Guanghui’s intentions, if he really hates you, the angrier you get, the happier he’ll be. You can’t let him gloat, so try not to be so angry."
"Sigh!" Yang Dongfeng thought for a long time but didn’t know what to say, his face full of sorrow. His most beloved daughter ended up like this, not only ugly on the outside but also inwardly vile and dirty. He thought about everything he had done to Sun Chan in the past, ashamed, lowering his head, pounding the wall beside him with his fist.
"It’s my fault. If I hadn’t been so permissive, Yang Yun wouldn’t have turned out this way! I am guilty!"
Gu Junming said, "Your parenting may have its faults, but you can’t blame yourself entirely. Yang Yun’s nature is inherently malicious; it’s hard to change. It’s not like you taught her how to harm others."
