Yunyi didn’t answer his question, instead looking outside the space.
When she saw who was approaching, she exclaimed, "Jingrui, it’s Zhong Liyuan! Why would she come here so late?"
Hearing this, Huo Jingrui immediately stopped asking about the space. "You can see outside?!" 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Yunyi nodded. "Yes."
Huo Jingrui switched expressions impressively fast and quickly slipped into his current role. "Keep an eye on her. See what she’s here for."
Yunyi remembered the person who had secretly met Zhong Liyuan in the county town the other day. "Right, Jingrui," she asked, "the sketch I gave you before—did you find that person?"
Upon hearing Yunyi’s question, Huo Jingrui’s expression became very grave. "That person should be one of Scarface’s subordinates, but he wasn’t among those we captured today."
Yunyi couldn’t help asking, "Is this Scarface the person you’re looking for?"
Huo Jingrui shook his head. "There’s someone above him. But after today, that person probably won’t be able to cause trouble for much longer. After all, he’ll likely become a ’Bald Commander’ after this."
As for who exactly that person was or where they were hiding, they truly didn’t know. However, one thing was certain: the man with the scar—Scarface—definitely wasn’t the target of his current mission.
Yunyi watched as Zhong Liyuan arrived at the spot where they had just been standing. Zhong Liyuan first observed the area for a while, possibly confirming something.
Afterward, she walked forward and, after a considerable time, stopped in front of a locust tree. Yunyi then saw her circle the tree several times. After a moment, Zhong Liyuan raised her hand and tore a piece of bark from it.
Zhong Liyuan took an envelope from within the tree but didn’t open it. Instead, she took another envelope from her pocket, placed it inside, reattached the torn bark, and then hurried away.
Yunyi recounted what she had seen to Huo Jingrui and asked, "Should we go out and follow her?"
Yunyi was about to ask, How do you know she’ll come back? But before she could voice her question, she saw Zhong Liyuan indeed sneak back. After confirming no one was following her, Zhong Liyuan finally left.
Those people are really cautious, she mused.
Yunyi carefully collected the hair and then peeled away the fake bark, revealing a hollow in the tree where the letter Zhong Liyuan had placed was hidden.
She took a pair of gloves from her space, put them on, and quickly retrieved the envelope, only to realize it was written in Japanese. Thankfully, the envelope wasn’t sealed. After she read the contents, she immediately thought of Lun Huaijing, an educated youth from Songling Tree.
No wonder Zhong Liyuan tried to get close to Lun Huaijing, Yunyi thought. But who is Zhong Liyuan contacting?
She put the letter back into the envelope, carefully restored everything to its original state, and then signaled to Huo Jingrui. "When do you think the person collecting the letter will come? Should we wait here for them?"
Huo Jingrui considered that those people likely maintained regular contact, so he guessed the letter in the tree hollow would be collected soon.
Thinking of Yunyi’s space, he said, "Let’s go back into your space. We can lie in wait for them there."
