Leaning against the cold wall, Annie struggled to keep her trembling body upright. Still reeling from the shock, she couldn't compose herself.

Seeing her so pale, Christian felt a sharp ache in his chest.

He approached her, lowering his voice to a whisper, as if afraid of startling her. "Let me take you home."

Annie shook her head slowly. "I want to wait a little longer. I… I want to see how Ms. Monroe is doing."

Christian wanted to hold her close, but he feared that would make her unravel entirely.

He could only stand beside her and say, "I'll stay with you."

When Annie heard that, her stiff body relaxed a little, and she slowly turned to face him.

Suddenly, she remembered something. "Didn't you only take half a day off? You need to go back to work soon."

She tried to force a reassuring smile, but her lips were stiff and uncooperative. "I'm fine. You should go back to work."

She gave him a gentle push, a hint of insistence in her tone. "I can handle this myself."

Christian furrowed his brows even harder. How could he possibly feel at ease?

Annie looked so fragile that it was as if she would shatter at the slightest touch right now.

Nonetheless, he knew how she was. Once she decided on something, there was no changing her mind. He didn't want to put any more pressure on her at a time like this.

Christian was silent for a while, then reluctantly nodded. He gave her a long, meaningful look. "Call me immediately if anything happens."

Annie nodded, her voice caught in her throat, rendering her unable to speak.

Christian stayed a moment longer before striding toward the elevator.

Annie watched him leave, and only when his figure disappeared at the end of the corridor did she slowly withdraw her gaze.

She leaned back against the wall, closing her eyes to hide all her fragility and helplessness behind her long lashes.

Meanwhile, Christian stopped moving just before entering the elevator. The gentle air he carried was gone, replaced by a bone-chilling aura.
