**He Knows the Door to My Soul and Who Forgot to Novel 103**

I turned my back on Natalia, deliberately ignoring the flicker of irritation that crossed Lilith’s face. It was a familiar expression, one that she wore whenever I spent too long in conversation with my ex-wife. It was as if she feared that I might, in a moment of weakness, choose to abandon her for the ghost of my past.
What Lilith remained blissfully unaware of was that just a few nights ago, I had shared a bed with Natalia. The memory of that encounter lingered in my mind like an unwelcome specter.
I quickly pushed the thought aside. There was no benefit in ruminating over what had transpired. I had gleaned the information I sought from that night; Natalia had lost the fragile life of our child before it ever had the chance to draw its first breath. The weight of shame settled heavily on my shoulders.
Lilith was still, in the eyes of the world, my fiancée. The guilt gnawed at me, a relentless reminder of my failures. I longed to bury those memories deep within, to move forward as Natalia seemed to have done so effortlessly.
“Let’s go,” I said, gesturing to Lilith and my loyal warriors. “Our business here is concluded for today.”
We were making our way toward the gates when the unmistakable sound of children’s laughter floated through the air, drawing my attention. I turned to see a small girl darting across the yard, her dark hair streaming behind her like a silk ribbon unfurling in the wind. She couldn’t have been more than four or five years old, her innocence radiating from her every movement.
The moment she caught sight of me, she halted abruptly, her wide eyes sparkling with surprise. Then, without hesitation, she broke into a radiant smile and dashed toward me.
“Daddy!” she squealed, her tiny feet skidding to a stop just a few feet away from where I stood.
I felt my body freeze, my heart racing in my chest. The girl was gazing up at me with a pair of bright green eyes that sent a jolt of recognition through me. Those eyes—my eyes. The same shade of green that had been passed down through generations of my family, from my mother to my grandmother.
But that couldn’t be. I had no children. My only child had perished before it ever had the chance to be born.
“Hello,” I said cautiously, bending down to meet her gaze. “I think there’s been a mistake. I’m not who you think I am.”
She tilted her head, her brow furrowing in confusion. “But I’m pretty sure you’re my daddy.”
A frown creased my forehead as I pondered her words. Natalia had never mentioned having any children with Damon. But what if…?
