**He Knows the Door to My Soul and Who Forgot to Novel 70**

A sudden tension seized my body, locking me in place.

“Get your hands off of me,” I spat out, my voice low and sharp as I pushed Andrei back with unexpected force. He staggered, taken aback by my sudden burst of strength, his surprise evident as he stumbled a step away. Couples around us halted their twirling movements, their eyes darting toward our confrontation, curiosity etched on their faces.

Andrei quickly regained his composure, his expression morphing into that familiar facade of icy detachment. Yet, his eyes—those piercing, calculating eyes—bore into mine as if he could see straight through the carefully constructed façade I clung to, a lie that felt as vital to my existence as breath itself.

Because perhaps it was. Perhaps the very lives of the twins hinged on that deception as well.

For a heart-stopping moment, a chilling thought crossed my mind—did he somehow know about the twins? Was this entire alliance, this invitation to the grand banquet, merely another one of his intricate plots designed to force me into a confession?

But no, that couldn’t be. If he truly knew, he would have confronted me directly, demanding to see them, to expose my secret. This was just another one of his manipulative games, a way to rattle me, to dig beneath my skin.

But why? I couldn’t quite grasp his motives. Perhaps my survival through those numerous attempts on my life years ago had simply turned into a source of amusement for him, a reason to torment me further.

I straightened my posture, lifting my chin defiantly, slipping back into the persona of Luna Mira of Ashmoor. Cool, composed, and utterly untouchable.

“It’s rather rude to bring up a deceased child at such a festive gathering,” I said with unwavering calm. “But I suppose decorum has never been your forte, Andrei.”

His eyes sparked with a dangerous intensity, a flicker of something dark and volatile. He opened his mouth, ready to unleash a retort, but before he could utter a single word, a flash of white appeared at his side.

“There you are, darling,” Lilith purred, her voice dripping with sweetness as she intertwined her arm with his. Her gown, a dazzling white, shimmered under the glow of the chandeliers, casting an almost ethereal light around her. She turned her gaze toward me, her smile stretching just a bit too wide, a mask of feigned innocence. “I’ve been searching for you everywhere.”

Andrei’s jaw clenched tightly, a muscle twitching in response to her presence, yet he allowed himself to be led away by her grasp. “We were just having a little chat,” he said, his tone dismissive.

“Ah, but there’s plenty of time for that tonight,” Lilith chimed, already pulling him toward the dance floor. “And I believe your mate is looking for you, Luna Mira.”

She spat my false name with such venom it felt like acid on my skin. As she cast one last glance over her shoulder, her eyes glinted with something sinister—jealousy, certainly, but also a warning, perhaps even a threat.

I didn’t linger to decipher her intentions. Spinning on my heel, I scanned the room for Damon, finally spotting him by one of the buffet tables, engaged in deep conversation with an older Alpha I didn’t recognize. Without a moment’s hesitation, I made my way toward him.

Damon looked up just as I reached him, and without uttering a single word, I wrapped my arms around his waist, pressing my body against his as I buried my face into the crook of his neck.

He stiffened in surprise, but his arms quickly enveloped me, drawing me closer. “Natalia?” he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper, meant only for my ears. “What’s wrong?”

“Just dance with me,” I implored softly against his skin. “Please.”

Without hesitation, Damon led me to the dance floor, pulling me tightly against him as we began to sway to the music. Over his shoulder, I caught sight of Andrei and Lilith dancing a short distance away. Andrei’s gaze locked onto mine instantly, as if he possessed some kind of radar that could track me.

I held his gaze for just a heartbeat before I deliberately turned my head away, forcing myself to focus on Damon.

I could feel Andrei’s eyes burning into the back of my head, lingering for a moment longer, and all I could think was… Good. Let him believe that Damon and I were genuinely in love. Let him accept the lie. Let Lilith swallow it too. If not for my own safety, then for the sake of the twins.

“What happened?” Damon asked, his breath warm against my ear as he spoke. “Did he do something to you?”
