Return of the Sword God-Rank Civil Servant novel Chapter 239

“Then I’ll be counting on you, Director Jeong. Section Chief An.”

In the office of the Association President.

The newly appointed Association President, Lim «N.o.v.e.l.i.g.h.t» Cheol, and Vice President, Do Sang-wan, offered their congratulations to Jeong Cheol-min and Su-ho.

At last, both their positions in the Special Division had been officially confirmed.

“Thank you. I’ll do my best.”

“We have high hopes for the new Special Division. If you need anything, just say the word.”

“Yes, sir. Understood.”

“Alright then, get to work.”

Even though this was an appointment to the role of Special Division Director—third highest in the Association’s hierarchy—there was no formal ceremony or grand announcement.

The Special Division, by nature, handled everything under the radar.

Both men, dressed in suits for the occasion, stepped out of the Association President’s office and headed to the elevator, chatting as they went.

Su-ho spoke first.

“Congratulations, Director.”

“Congratulations, my ass. This is all thanks to you. You’re the one who should be congratulated—Section Chief of the Special Division now, huh?”

“Yeah, really. Took me forever to get here.”

Jeong Cheol-min let out a small chuckle.

“You know people are gonna curse you if they hear that, right? I don’t care if you were a special hire at grade 5—calling that ‘a long time’ is ridiculous. What you got is a fast-track promotion, an exceptional one.”

Of course, Su-ho knew.

In the rigid world of public service, his promotion was beyond exceptional.

But that only applied to normal cases. And Su-ho was anything but normal.

‘I got a presidential citation for clearing the Jeju Island Gate. It’d be weirder if I didn’t get promoted.’

Thanks to resolving an End Gate, Su-ho was still getting contacted from all over the world—for data sharing, joint research, even seminar invitations.

What he had accomplished was nothing short of extraordinary.

Honestly, it wouldn’t have been strange to offer him the Director seat instead.

If this were a guild, he’d already be sitting in an executive position.

But no matter how incredible the achievement, procedures and tradition couldn’t be bypassed.

Still, Su-ho didn’t mind anymore.

Sure, the Director outranked the Section Chief, but when it came to the actual fieldwork, the Section Chief was the one doing everything.

All the annoying paperwork? That was Director Jeong’s problem now.

Su-ho actually saw it as a win.

“Haha. I’ll stay humble, sir. So, shall we start the Special Division recruitment?”

“Yeah. Approval’s been granted. Post the notice right away.”

“On it.”

Now that the key leadership roles were filled, all that was left was to build out the body and limbs of the division.

He wasn’t worried about the Investigation Division.

As previously discussed, Na Do-won had officially taken over as its head.

Soon, both men arrived on the Special Division floor. Jeong went to his office, and Su-ho entered his own.

Just before Jeong stepped inside, he turned and said,

“Oh right, did you delete your SNS?”

“Yes. As soon as the reassignment was confirmed, I deactivated my account.”

“Good. You know how it is. We’re basically like the National Intelligence Service—strict secrecy is essential.”

“Of course. No doubt about it.”

That was exactly right.

The Special Division of the Grand Korea Hunters’ Association operated similarly to the National Intelligence Service.

Everything was classified. SNS accounts were completely out of the question.

But Su-ho actually preferred it that way.

He had only started his social media because of Jo Jin-hwi’s suggestion, and now he didn’t have to worry about it anymore.

After instructing the office staff to post the recruitment notice, Su-ho sat down in his chair and picked up the phone.

The first person he called was Kim Geon.

—Yes, Section Chief.

“I just posted the Special Division recruitment notice.”

—I’ll get all the applications processed. Good work, sir.

“Thanks.”

The application period was set to two weeks.

He didn’t want it to be too long.

Frankly, even two weeks felt like a stretch, but there was a minimum requirement, so he went with that.

Right after ending the call, Su-ho dialed the next person—Kim Mu-hwan.

—Yes, I’ve got you on the line.

“I’ve officially started at the Special Division. I’m now Section Chief, just like we discussed. I’m ready to move on with the work we put on hold.”

—We’ve wrapped up everything on our end too.

“Get all the documents in order and send them over. No one bailed, right?”

—No one, sir.

“Perfect. I’ll see you soon.”

After that, Su-ho also called Choi Yoon, and as soon as that was done, he called Jo Jin-hwi.

—Yes, Section Chief!

As expected of Jo Jin-hwi—he immediately switched from “Pro” to “Section Chief.”

Su-ho laughed.

“It’s my first day. I just posted the recruitment notice for the Special Division. Spread the word for me.”

—Absolutely. I’ll push it to every citizen in the country. But... are you sure it’s okay? I thought someone had already been pre-selected for the role?

“Pre-selected? You’re going to get me in trouble. I’m giving everyone a fair chance and making decisions based on purely objective standards. No room for complaints.”

—That was careless of me. Of course. You’re not someone who’d let favoritism slide. Oh, and I saw you took down your Stargram account. I assume that’s because of Special Division policy?

“Yes, that’s right.”

—Then what about the fan café?

“I doubt there’s anyone left who doesn’t know I’ve been reassigned. Still, better to be cautious than start rumors. Shut it down.”

—That’s a shame. I’ve grown attached to the AnSu Shrine. It’s been a ride.

“You make it sound like it’s a pet or something.”

—It just means I cared that much. But a true fan does what the star wants. I’ll post a notice today and close it down in a few days.

“Thanks for understanding.”

—Of course. Anything else I can help with?
