Anastasia graciously shook his hand. “I’m Anastasia.”

“I can’t believe I’m only just now learning your name…” Lester said with a hint of regret. “I’ve been wanting to repay you for your kindness. Could I have the chance to treat you to a meal?”

His eyes were full of hope, but Anastasia shook her head apologetically. “It’s getting late, and I have to head home. Maybe next time?”

Though disappointed, the promise of a “next time” made Lester smile happily. “Alright.”

They exchanged contact information before Anastasia left with her cousin.

Juliet, holding Anastasia’s arm, glanced back and saw Lester still standing there, watching them leave. The focused, lingering look in his eyes made her heart skip a beat.

She quickly turned back. “Anastasia, who is he?”

“An old patient. I treated him back in Fairhaven. I never thought I’d run into him here.”

As Anastasia spoke, she suddenly remembered the antique-looking pendant Lester had sent to Rosewood Manor before he left.
