Chapter 309

Vincent had never seen Lucas like this before.

Lucas’s face was gaunt, his hair a mess, and there was a whole pile of cigarette butts scattered at his feet.

When Vincent walked in, Lucas let out a bitter laugh, took a hard drag on his cigarette, then flicked it away and ground it out. He looked at Vincent with an unreadable expression and asked, “You’re here because of Lydia, aren’t you?”

He’d already been kicked out of the Bennett Family. His parents and even Andrew didn’t care about him anymore. For Vincent, an outsider, to show up now-it had to be because of Lydia.

These past few days, with nothing to do but wait around, Lucas couldn’t help but replay everything that had happened over the years in his mind.

He suddenly realized that every time the whole Bennett Family picked on Emily, it was always to vent for Lydia. They’d always thought Lydia was soft-hearted and kind, someone who’d never snitch on them even when she was picked on.

Lucas thought, ‘But if Lydia hadn’t said anything, how would we have even known she was being bullied in the first place?’

Lucas stared Vincent straight in the eyes, a mocking grin on his face. He sneered, “Let me guess-did she tell you, ‘It’s not Lucas’s fault, it’s all my fault, everything’s on me? Then she started crying in front of you, all aggrieved and pitiful?

“So you just assumed I was bullying her, and now you’re here to stand up for the girl you love?”

Vincent choked on his words, unable to come up with a retort. Because that was what Lydia had said to him—and honestly, he had come here to confront Lucas for her sake.

Seeing Vincent’s expression, Lucas knew he’d hit the mark. His grin grew even more mocking as he said, “Vincent, you and Andrew were always the smart ones in our circle. But now, both of you have been played by Lydia. Isn’t that just hilarious?”
