Claudia nodded. No wonder he always tried to squeeze in next to her.
Sterling gave her a look. “And you? You don’t like it?”
She shook her head. “It doesn’t bother me.”
They fell silent again. He just kept staring at her face like he was waiting for something.
But there wasn’t much to figure out. Claudia just nodded calmly. “Alright.”
Sterling grinned, then suddenly bent down, scooping her up by the bare legs under her nightdress.

Claudia gasped at the sudden lift, hands clinging to his shoulders, eyes wide. “What are you doing?”
“Heading to bed,” he said with a smile.
She gave his chest a light punch.
Sterling didn’t dodge. He just carried her toward the main room, clearly in a good mood.
Claudia, dangling in his arms, playfully tapped him with her toes and laughed.
Whatever. It wasn’t like it was their first time sleeping in the same bed. All that fussing didn’t
matter.
And she hadn’t been lying. She didn’t mind him being close.
He barged into her world and brought all kinds of new things. She had to admit that she couldn’t turn away from a guy who always picked her, stood up for her, and thought ahead for her.
She didn’t want to think about forever, but she wanted to hold on to this fleeting moment.
Even sharing a bed counted as cooperation.
Being the golden boy’s pillow wasn’t exactly a loss.
Her mind drifted to his abs and strong thighs she’d brushed against before. Maybe it was time to take their sleepovers to the next level.
She’d never been with a man before–especially not one like him.

Too bad Sterling had no clue what she was thinking. If he did, he probably would’ve pulled her in closer right then.
But he wasn’t in a rush. With his prey, he always had patience.
The spark of passion was one thing, but letting it flow naturally was also sweet.
In their new home, Claudia and Sterling talked about where they’d sleep and came to an easy agreement. The vibe between them was solid.
But that same night, lots of folks in Liberty City couldn’t sleep.
The Fenton Residence.
Sylvia stormed in, tossed her purse on the couch, and fumed.
“Ugh, what bad luck!”
The Lancasters were unreliable. They even turned a simple party into a mess.
An engagement that should’ve gone smoothly turned into a joke.
That last–minute fiancée swap destroyed their reputation. The public image had flipped. Claudia, who people once doubted, came out on top, rising the social ladder.
Sylvia couldn’t take it. She felt like the Lancasters had totally played them.
Tybalt glared at Jasper, who looked crushed.
“Out with it. How’d you get mixed up with Lydia again tonight?”
They had their suspicions, but earlier wasn’t the right time to ask, so they hadn’t asked for details.
It turned out that Preston’s family kidnapped Lydia and forced Jasper to show up.
Tybalt slammed the table, his face twisted in anger. “So they told you to go, and you just went? Do you even get how big tonight was? You begged for that engagement with Claudia, and now you’re the one caught cheating!
“Why couldn’t someone else save Lydia? The Lancasters‘ bodyguards, the cops, her own parents -are they useless? Why did it have to be you? It was clearly a setup!”

If Jasper and Claudia had gotten engaged, and if Sterling truly wanted her, then as the one being judged, Sterling would’ve had to show some real sincerity to get her.
