Chapter 187 She’s More Important

David could never sleep well unless it was in his own bed. So after dragging himself home through the rain and finally crashing, he got yanked up again.
He was so mad that he felt like haunting somebody’s house. Muttering about whether he was the only doctor in the world, he sped up and headed to Claudia’s villa.
He actually liked her. She was the only person who could handle that crazy Sterling. It’d be a waste if she burned out her brain with a fever.
Luckily, it was just a normal fever from being stuck in the rain.
Claudia had lived under the Lancasters‘ pressure for years, and her nerves were tough. Last night’s creepy mess didn’t shake her, nor did the people buzzing around her.
David set up an IV while fighting off a yawn. “Okay, finish this drip, take your meds, and you’ll be fine. Mind if I crash on your coffee table for a nap?”
No chance of him falling asleep in a real bed now, so the couch or table would have to do—just in case that lunatic called him back.
He didn’t wait for Sterling’s reply and just wandered off.
The room went quiet. On the bed, the girl’s face was pale with a rosy flush. A few strands of hair clung to her sweaty forehead, making her skin look even paler. She wanted to scratch at the itch but felt too tired, so she rubbed her cheek against the pillow instead.
She was normally full of energy, but now she looked fragile.
Sterling stood over her, brushing her hair back, his face unreadable as he studied her feverish look.
Then, out of nowhere, her pinky finger hooked around his.
“Yesterday, you got a shot. Today it’s me. Guess we’re always in sync, huh?”
Claudia’s eyes flicked open, a grin spreading as she gave his hand a shake.
He sat beside her, pulled her into his arms, and was careful not to tug the IV line.
“Let’s not be this in sync, okay?”
He bent down and kissed her.
Claudia turned her face away with a scowl.

“You know you can catch fevers by kissing, right?”
Sterling held her still and kissed her anyway.
When he finally spoke, his voice was rough. “Then I’ll catch yours.”
Claudia pinched his waist hard. “Pretty sure you’re just taking advantage.”
He chuckled without flinching. “How’s it looking after you taking advantage?”
She shot back, “Then go kiss your grandpa.”
Sterling was left speechless.
Meanwhile, Donovan, whom Claudia mentioned, was fuming at the hospital.
Yesterday, his ward had been packed with his family members, and they refused to leave. But today, not a single one showed up.
Sterling had scared them stiff. Now they were hiding at home, counting their money and double–checking their servants.
They weren’t even certain they could hold on to what was already theirs. So for now, no one was thinking about grabbing Donovan’s inheritance. Plus, the doctor had said he wasn’t in any immediate danger.
Everyone figured others would show up, so the ward ended up cold and empty.
Donovan didn’t care about them anyway. The only one he actually wanted to see was Sterling.
He’d been hoping his grandson would visit, maybe give him a clue about his feelings toward Frederick. Instead, word came that Sterling was busy taking care of his girlfriend and wouldn’t be showing up for days.
Donovan slapped the bed in anger. So his grandson thought a girl was more important than him? A trip to the ER couldn’t beat a little fever?
His rage at his useless children and grandkids made his heart monitor look like mountain peaks.
Back at the villa, David kept drifting in to check the IV. He did his job really well, but every time he came in, the couple was acting all lovey–dovey again. The closer the IV got to running out, the more annoyed he felt about being single.
