Without Claudia knowing. Sterling’s new label as her “husband was cemented across the entire neighborhood.

She only found it odd that the neighbors seemed unusually friendly today.

All morning, she received plates of homemade snacks, desserts, and all kinds of local specialties from different households.

Since there were too many messages in the group chat, she didn’t bother scrolling back. She only scratched her head in confusion and looked at Sterling. “Do we need to return the favor?”

Sterling, of course, knew the truth. He lounged calmly, watching her unwrap gifts like a little hamster. “No need. Just normal neighborly exchange. Take it easy and accept them.”

Claudia sighed. “You’re acting more like the owner here than me.”

Seriously, listen to that tone-“normal neighborly exchange.”

Did he even remember whose apartment this was? Whose neighbors these were? He was just a guest, but somehow carried himself with more authority than the actual owner.

Sterling chuckled softly and pinched her puffed cheek as she chewed. “Am I wrong, though? Who’s been cooking, cleaning, doing the laundry in this place? Claudia, what would you do without me?”

Claudia swatted his hand away, eyes wide. “Stop, stop, stop. Keep your distance!”

She wanted to say she had gotten along just fine for years without him.

But some instinct deep inside warned her that their closeness was dangerous.

For someone with high defenses like her, she had never imagined she could become this familiar, this comfortable, with a dangerous stranger in such a short time.

Sterling’s behavior was confusing too.

From what she had seen of his interactions with Clint and the others, she could faintly sense that he wasn’t the same person around her.

Something was quietly changing.

“Sterling, when are you leaving?”

Sterling’s smile instantly vanished. His gaze grew dark as he stared at her. “So eager to kick me out? What, just because your ex hasn’t come sniffing around for a while, you’re already itching to clear a spot for him?”

Claudia gave him a strange look. “Are you being sarcastic?”

“I’m saying you’ve got no judgment when it comes to people.”

“When did I ever say it was because of him?”

Sterling’s expression didn’t change.

Claudia drew a deep breath. “That’s a separate matter. I’m just asking what your next plans are. It has nothing to do with Jasper. I don’t do second chances. The moment I broke up with him, it was real. No looking back.”

She hadn’t seen him since because she refused to leave loose ends.

Claudia valued even the smallest kindness from others, but when she hardened her heart, she could be merciless.

Disappointment didn’t build in a single day. The failed proposal had only been the trigger. She had once loved Jasper deeply, but in her heart, his points had long since dropped to zero.

She would never rewrite the same exam paper.

Claudia looked at Sterling seriously. “You’re the Romero family’s golden boy. You can’t possibly live in my tiny apartment forever. I have my own troubles too. Don’t you think this situation is a little strange?”

Her blunt words, strangely enough, only lifted Sterling’s mood.
