Through her blurry and teary eyes, Kamila could barely see Sterling’s cold and merciless gaze.
He really wanted her dead.
Kamila had never been so terrified.
But soon, even the feeling of fear started to fade away.
Her body turned cold from lack of air. Her grip on Sterling’s wrist slowly loosened. Her legs went limp, and she sank into a spinning and endless darkness.
In the very last second, Sterling let go of her and tossed her onto the ground.
This wasn’t a good place to kill someone.
It would scare Claudia.
Kamila lay on the floor, gasping desperately for air. An ugly bruise forming around her neck. Tears streamed down her face as she looked up at him with sheer terror.
Sterling ignored Kamila, who was still gasping for air. He calmly took a clean white handkerchief from his pocket and carefully wiped his hands.
Throughout everything, Claudia’s coat had remained draped neatly over his other arm.
He tossed the used handkerchief next to Kamila’s face and smiled faintly–nothing like someone who almost strangled a person to death moments ago.
“Ms. Lloyd, your so–called favor from seven years ago almost got me killed too.”
He had been hiding from those who wanted him dead, but someone had called an ambulance that came straight for him, forcing him to jump from the third floor of the building. He had to flee while bleeding along the way.
“And worse, how dare you suggest that my beloved Claudia be kept as some secret mistress?”
Just the thought of her arrogant words made his blood boil. She could die a hundred times and it still wouldn’t be enough to satisfy his anger.
“Claudia isn’t some trash from the gutter like you. She deserves only the best.”

Sterling gave off an icy chill that made Kamila flinch instinctively. She clutched her neck in the ground, shivering and crawling backward a little.
Sterling sneered and walked past her, heading to find Claudia while taking her coat with him.
Even if Kamila had saved him back then, did she really think Sterling was the kind of man who repaid favors?
Kamila was too naive to think she could use that to threaten him and drive Claudia away.
“I’m sorry.”
On the other side, Claudia listened to the man’s apology, her expression gave nothing away.
It was kind of funny. He had apologized to her so many times, but this one sounded the most sincere. Probably because this time, he finally knew what it felt like to be replaced.
“Claudia!” Jasper grabbed her wrist as she turned to leave. His gaze was filled with pain. “If I had realized my mistake earlier, would things have turned out differently for us?”
Claudia calmly pulled her hand free. “No. We still would’ve broken up.”
She looked at the surprised Jasper. “Our problem wasn’t that you didn’t understand my situation back then. It was that your own needs always came before mine. You wanted a good reputation, to be a perfect and respectable person, to follow what society expected. Every single one of those things was more important than loving me.”
She smiled, remembering what she’d just seen. “Don’t act like you can’t live without me, Jasper. Is it really that hard to admit you’re just greedy?”
He’d talked about love while constantly meeting other women. There was Sasha back then; now it was some other socialite.
At least he’d learned not to be as pretentious this time.
A man’s regret is truly worthless.
