After ending her third–wheel phase, she went back to the company, ready to clash with her father again.

Claudia had been behaving at home lately–mostly because her waist couldn’t handle any more strain.

During dinner that day, Patrick found out she’d helped choreograph that hit dance show everyone was talking about. He got so hyped that he mentioned his director friend was filming a historical movie and wanted Claudia as the dance consultant.

She didn’t turn him down. But since the movie hadn’t even started shooting, she didn’t rush to decide.

Right now, she was focused on finishing her illustrations. Her monster–themed art book had blown up, so the editor wanted to ride the wave and push out a sequel as fast as possible.

As soon as she left the studio, Sterling walked out of his study.

In the dining room, Sterling pulled her into his lap like it was a routine thing, one hand kneading her waist while the other fed her dessert.

Claudia swung her legs and picked up the invitation she’d been holding. “Simon is getting engaged? Who’s the lucky girl?”

Sterling glanced over, not very interested. “The Fergusons‘ daughter. Apparently, Simon protected her on the yacht last time and got a little hurt. Guess things got romantic after that, so now they’re making it official.”

“So the last incident–was that Simon’s doing?”

Sterling didn’t even try to hide what he was thinking. Claudia could tell he still didn’t buy the official story.

His eyes gleamed with that wild, smug spark he only ever showed her. “If there’s doubt, there’s guilt.”

Claudia flicked the invitation with a smirk. “Guess this engagement party is gonna be a mess

too.”

She thought about Donovan, who’d been acting all jumpy every time he saw her lately. Grinning, she rested her chin on her hand. “Looks like I get to mess with your grandpa again.”

She made sure to avoid the two people she least wanted to see and slipped away to the Romero Manor to find Winnie.

Her aunt looked worn out–no makeup, no fancy clothes, just sitting quietly by the window.

To save her brothers, Winnie had swallowed her pride and reached out to Quinton after a long, cold war. She’d even gone to Donovan and begged the sisters–in–law she used to sneer at.

But all she got in return were awkward stares and words that stung softly, like, “You know this isn’t up to us. We can’t do anything.”

She walked away from those who turned her away calmly. But inside, she was breaking apart.

Now, Winnie felt exactly like Isabella once had–stuck in Romero Manor, watching her family suffer, her future slipping away, and no one answering her cries for help.

She looked over at Kamila, who was still weak from recovery, and her calm expression cracked. “Just go. Leave Dracovia. Don’t ever come back.”

“Aunt Winnie, I can’t.” Kamila’s voice was flat, her face empty.

All three of the Lloyd brothers were in serious trouble. As Corbin’s daughter, she wasn’t allowed to leave Dracovia. And if she even tried, Sterling’s men would have her back before she could reach the airport.
