Chapter 147 Did You Just Stalk Me
James hesitated for a moment before continuing, “Should we ask Ms. Foster about the story behind those hairpins? Otherwise, how are we supposed to help her get them back?”
Marcus set the phone down. “I’ll handle the rest with her directly; just tell her we agree.
“Mr. Collins… you’re really planning to work with her?”
James stared at him in disbelief, shock flashing across his eyes.
“Mhm.”
The man’s voice was low and steady; his expression revealed nothing.
“All right, I’ll send her a reply then.”
James had barely taken two steps when Marcus‘ voice sounded again from behind him. “How’s Mr. Gabriel doing these days? Has Natalie been by for his follow–up checkups?”
“I heard his health’s improved a lot. Ms. Foster’s been checking on him regularly; actually, she’s scheduled to visit Gabriel for a follow–up tomorrow–probably sometime in the evening.”
Marcus nodded thoughtfully. “Got it. You can get back to work.”
James inclined his head and stepped out.
By evening, Lucy had dinner ready and was waiting for Natalie to come home.
“It smells amazing. What’s for dinner tonight?”
The moment Natalie walked through the door, the warm, savory scent hit her.
“Ms. Foster, Ms. Lucy made glazed carrots tonight!”
Hearing the commotion by the door, Lily bolted over, wrapping her arms around Natalie’s leg with a sweet smile.
“Oh wow, glazed carrots–Lily’s favorite, huh?”
“Yup!”
Lucy waved her over. “Perfect timing; the soup’s just finished simmering. Let’s eat.”
“Sounds good.”
By the end of dinner, Lily had scampered off to the balcony to play with her toys, leaving Natalie and Lucy to talk quietly.
Natalie brought up her decision to accept Marcus‘ request to restore the jade necklace.
Natalie’s tone was cool and even; her face gave nothing away.
Lucy tilted her head slightly. “In that case, I’m curious to see how this brilliant man of yours handles it.”
Her smile deepened, the corners of her lips curving higher.
Just then, the phone on the table started to ring.
Natalie froze for a moment when she saw the name on the screen.
Sitting across from her, Lucy noticed too–it was Marcus.
“Speak of the devil,” Lucy whispered with a playful laugh. “Do you two have some kind of telepathic connection?”
Natalie swatted her lightly. “Stop it.”
Then, picking up her phone, she rose and walked toward the door.
Her mind was filled with flashes of that charged moment between them on the second floor.
After a brief pause, she finally answered, her voice steady. “Mr. Collins, were you looking for me?”
