Chapter 101

All the men in Torq’s team listened with bated breath when Carlos suddenly asked Corrado if he thought his son was behind this.

“No. He’s a fucking bleeding hearted idiot. He feels too much. He’s mourning his mother, stepfather and sister. He doted on those women. It looked like an accident, and we got confirmation he was flying out this morning to bury them and investigate what happened. He was seen getting onto a private plane home. He’ll be too wrapped up in his grief to think about coming at me yet. By the time he is ready I’ll have already taken New York.”

Torg knew most people would be hurt by their biological father speaking of him the way his did but it only fueled his need to end this rivalry once and for all.

“But Molinaro is dead. He was one of our bigger backers here.” Carlos’s voice held a smidge of concern.

“We still have what’s left of Zanelli and your family and those loyal to me who are pissed Torq took what was rightfully mine. Coward didn’t even kill me to take it. He’s weak. Mariani will pledge to me. He’s so deep in debt he’d suck my balls dry for a dime.”

“Torq,” Natale’s voice cut in. “My guys watching Mariani’s house are reporting Mrs. Mariani leaving out a side door. We have eyes on Edgardo, but do we send someone to follow her?”

“A call from Edgardo to Mercurio and then from Mercurio to his mother. My guess is Edgardo called him to tell him to finish his job in finding Alcee and Ant. Instead he called his mother and warned her to get the fuck out is my guess,”

“Then leave it.” Torq commented quietly. “If Mercurio knows Corrado is going to his father’s house and he’s getting his mother out, he might have figured out we are forcing the situation to get Corrado and Mariani in the same place. He probably has a car there for her or coming for her.

Natale spoke up, “you are correct, Torg, my team is confirming she’s getting into a car at the staff’s service entrance. It just pulled up.”

“Perfect. Let her leave. My beef is with Edgardo not his wife. If she becomes an issue later we’ll deal with it but for now she’s a distraction.”

Torq looked at his phone and saw an incoming text from Alcee. He was certain he’d left her passed out in bed. He read it quickly and then cursed under his breath

“What’s wrong?” “Tito asked curiously looking over his shoulder to his boss and friend.

“Alcee texted me to say she got a text from Mercurio asking if she could ask me to call him. Says it’s urgent.”

Bastiano pulled his own phone from his pocket, “my phone was on silent but he’s sent me a half dozen texts requesting a call.”

“Fuck.” He rubbed b

his forehead. “I do not want to implicate him more than I need to but he fucking called

wile.”

“She’s not your wife yet,” Tito teased him.

“She sleeps in my bed and she’s birthed my son. I think any other name for her is a miss.” He waved at Bastiano. “Call him, on speaker, make sure we all hear it. Natale,” he called to the other Don in this convoy, “we may have a situation with Mercuria Mariani interfering.”

Mercurio’s voice filled the air through the speakers of the car. “Capo Verrilli.” Mercurio’s formal address of Bastiano made all the eyebrows raise in surprise. “Thank you for returning my call.”

“What

at do you need?” Bastiano asked bluntly.

“I was hoping to speak with Don Lozano if I could, but I will be happy if you could pass along the message to him.”

“Then speak and I’ll pass it along.”

“Earlier this evening, one of my father’s spies called me to warn me my father is obsessed with finding Alcee. He’s telling his own men, not me or my brothers, but his own men, he’s trying to bring them home to keep them safe. He’s telling me and my brothers their bodies will suffice. He knows she’s in the tower block you purchased.”

Chapter 101

Bastiano gave a laugh, “all information we already know, Mercurio. We’re not hiding Alcee in the tower block.”
