Chapter 102
“A sitting duck? Did you mean like when Andreas Molinaro knew six years ago your sister was unaffiliated and made a play for her in a shop? Tell me Mercurio, where was your sense of justice for your sister when your father put word on the street Alcee was not under his protection and the bastard she was carrying should die.” When Mercurio was silent, he continued, “did you think we wouldn’t find out about your father’s underhanded means of trying to get rid of the baby your sister carried, even if it meant by being raped and abused by Andreas Molinaro. You let that ride, Mercurio. You did that. Do not come at the Lozano family suddenly concerned for your sister’s wellbeing when it was two other families over the last six years who kept her safe from your father’s prideful plotting since her own brothers could not be bothered.”
Mercurio cleared his throat, “I am trying to make amends.”
“You are trying to soothe a guilty conscience. Rest assured my Donna is safe where she is. Your brand of protection is unwarranted and unneeded. Unless you possess any information of value to share with us, I’m going to presume the nature of this call was to try to glean some kind of Information on Alcee so you can get back into your father’s good graces with her body at his feet.”
“My father called me a few minutes ago and said Corrado is in town and Molinaro’s family somehow was targeted. He thinks Molinaro’s son Andreas was into something off the books, and it pissed someone off. He is heading to my father’s. Dad ordered me and my brothers back to the house to offer additional protection to Corrado just in case it was more. He also told me to swing by the tower block and get Alcee and bring her with us.”
“I dare you to try to swing past the tower block to grab her.” Bastiano gave a bitter laugh. “Go ahead. See what floor you get to before you take your last breath.”
“I do not want to cause my sister harm. I want to know she is safe because if we don’t get her, my father will send one of his to do it.”
“Then let them go,” Bastiano said simply. “Let him send an entire army to try to get her. I encourage it. I beg you to let them go. It would make things so much easier to get them all at once instead of the way we’re currently taking your father’s friends out, one at a time.”
“You are convinced she is this safe?”
“They could fucking helicopter onto the roof and try to rappel down to their home and still wouldn’t even catch sight of her. It’s a promise.”
“Thank you,” Mercurio whispered suddenly.
“Don’t thank us yet. Oh, I should ask, will you be present when Corrado arrives at your father’s house or no?”
“No.” Mercurio said quietly. “Torq mentioned earlier he knew Corrado was coming. If Molinaro is dead, then it means Torq is going for Corrado. I don’t want to be caught in the crossfire.”
“What if your father is caught in the crossfire?” Bastiano mocked him.
Mercurio was quiet a beat and then he cleared his throat, “I would prefer to deal with my father myself,”
“Then I would suggest you get your ass to your father’s estate.” Bastiano said bluntly before hanging up the call.
“Trace his phone and get ears on it. I want to know whether he tips Corrado off or not.” Torq said seriously, “trace his brothers‘ phones too.”
The rest of the ride to the Mariani estate was quiet and then as the cars filed in, one by one, Torq almost laughed as Corrado and Carlos didn’t even wait for the soldiers he expected were in his back–up vehicles to get out and escort him. They raced up the stairs into the open front door
or of
the Mariani estate as if they didn’t even realize the front gate was completely unmanned and wide open.
Torq exited the vehicle and gave a sharp whistle which brought men out from the shadows, the bushes, behind trees and posts and converging on the lawn in an army. Wordlessly he waved his hand, and the men all began moving blocking exits, climbing into windows, and making their way into the house. He boldly followed Corrado’s footsteps and walked straight up the stairs.
The sound of yelling made him smile and he walked into the living room to find Corrado, Carlos and Edgardo all on their knees with multiple guns pointed at them.
“Now this looks familiar,” Torq commented with a grin as his father’s startled gaze met his. “See, last time I put you on your knees like this, I kept you alive out of respect to my grandfather. I believe you called it weak earlier. We won’t make the same mistake tonight.”
“Torquato.”

“I knew it. I knew
Molinaro was right. The heads of his sons reeked of your hand,” Carlos bellowed furiously.
“You are useless,” Torq pulled his weapon and fired off a single shot. He looked at the man now crumpled, his leg twitching as his life left his body. The seemed surprised I shot him. I’ve always hated that guy. Don’t know why he didn’t think I’d kill him.”
“You’re not supposed to be here. You’re supposed to be in Sicily.”
