Chapter 106
“I would kill him. I would kill him if he was in front of me.” Corrado roared with rage. “He is a traitor. He is of my blood. I let him live. His mother should have aborted him, and I felt sorry for her because she was all alone after her parents died and I let her keep him hidden in their shithole village.”
Torquato leaned forward and looked into his father’s eyes, “as if my grandfather would have allowed you to kill him. He was the one who told me of his existence when he was but a baby. He knew of all your sins. He knew you were a thief, stealing from your own family. He was ashamed of you. I am ashamed of you. Raniero is ashamed of you. You are not meant to be part of the Lozano family because you do not know the meaning of loyalty, trust or respect. You die tonight old man. All of your allies are dead. Your money is gone. Your life is over.”
“It is not.”
“It is.” Torquato said resolutely and lifted his pistol and put it to his father’s head.
“You don’t have the balls,” Corrado laughed, his eyes widening.
“Is he hesitating?” Susana asked Alcee quietly. “Man, this must be hard.”
“I don’t think he’s hesitating as much as taking stock of what he’s doing.” Alcee said quietly. “Look at his hand. There isn’t even the slightest hint of a tremor. This has been a long time coming and he’s going to see it through ”
“Look at me,” Torquato ordered Corrado. “Look into my eyes.” When Corrado did as instructed Torquato commanded, “heg.”
“What?”
“Beg. Beg me to let you live.”
“No. You won’t kill me. I know you will not.
A single gunshot rang out and then Corrado fell sideways to the floor as the men let him go.

“He was wrong,” Torq said with a wry twist to his lips. “I definitely had no qualms of killing him.” Then in an uncharacteristic display of emotion
he pulled his boot back and kicked the man in the chest. “For ordering a hit on my son, you piece of shit, I’d kill you twice if I could”
Alcee clutched her chest, “he actually did it.”
“He really did.” Amal wheezed. “I’ve never seen anything so brutally cold before. He just killed his own father.”
“Um, Alcee?” Susana frowned at the screen.
“What?”
“Mercurio is looking directly into the camera.”
“What?”
She looked at her brother and noted he was suddenly smirking as he stared at the camera in the corner of the room and then pulled his phone from inside his coat. Her phone lit up on the bed and she lifted it.
M: I see a red–light flashing. Did you get all that?
“Shit.” She gasped as she stared at the phone. “Is he going to tattle on me?”
“Probably.” Susana huffed. “He’s been doing it forever.”
They watched as he walked to Torq and whispered something to him with his back to the camera. Torq looked up to the camera, his gaze narrowed and then pulled his own phone from his pocket.
She flinched when the text came in.
Chapter 106
T: You’re supposed to be asleep.
“You need to answer him!” Amal said seriously. “They are suspecting it is you but if it’s not you then it’s someone else and it’s a problem.”
“Ugh!” she gave an exasperated slap to the mattress.
A: I can’t sleep. I was worried. Don’t be mad.
T: Not mad. Impressed because Tito shut everything down before we entered the house.
A: He needs a better hacker than Kylen.
She watched as Torq showed Kylen the text and Kylen looked up to the camera and held up his middle finger. Her moment of panic passed as she giggled.
Mercurio spoke up suddenly, no longer whispering to Torq. “Well, it looks like I’ve gained some invaluable education here tonight.” He made a show of moving to stand in front of Edgardo.
“You wouldn’t dare.” Edgardo hissed angrily as his eyes flicked between his sons and brother and to the two dead men on the floor.
“I would,” Mercurio took a deep breath and shook his head. “I will say, I admit fully, I will not be able to do this as coolly as Torquato did. My emotions are all over the place. I remember the good times, when you weren’t such a bumbling fool who could be reasoned with. I remember you when you were your father’s right hand and you were strong and someone I admired and looked up to. Unlike Torq who probably only has shitty memories of his parent, I hold some good ones. They are the ones I will keep with me.”
“You’re a pussy.” Edgardo growled. “Your mother will not forgive you if you pull this shit.”
