Sold To the Grizzly Don (Alcee and Bruno) novel Chapter 110

Chapter 110

No. It’s not what is bothering me. I don’t love him yet either but the fact he would let my son grow up motherless for something he can’t define pisses me off*

You think because you are the mother of his son, you deserve special treatment?

Special treatment?she eyed Brunella curiously. Why the hell would asking not to be shot in the head be considered special treatment?

*For cheating, I mean. You think since you are Antero’s mother you should be allowed to betray him?

No. I’m saying there should at least be some reluctance on Torquato’s part to want to kill me. Also, he hasn’t specified what cheating means to

him

Knowing my son, it’s the all or none scenario. If you think of another man, he’ll shoot you.

She rolled her eyes at Brunella’s comment. Brunella, I’m serious here.

Look, did you fight with him over this when he was just coming back from solidifying his family?

He started it.

Did he?At Alcee’s silence Brunella laughed, sweet Alcee, Cicciu wasn’t near as invested as Torquato was and he came into bed last night, threw an arm over me and was snoring before his head hit the pillow. I considered smothering him with the pillow from the snoring, but I knew he was exhausted. Torq was probably a hundred times more tired, and you ambushed him with this?

You’re defending him because he’s your son.

Yes. 1 am.Brunella laughed at Alcee’s pout. I know him well because I know who he is. He’s a man capable of great love Alcee. He’s also incredibly pragmatic and practical and he often sees things in black and white and the things he cannot see in black and white, he puts into boxes in his head to sort out later. He was mentally and physically exhausted and you asked him a hypothetical question which probably wound him up even more and in his state, he didn’t come up with an answer you liked.”

Alcee held the woman’s gaze and then looked back to the table, her eyes catching the glint of the stones on the engagement ring she was wearing. I’m scared.

Brunella nodded, I can see that. Are you scared of Torg killing you or something else, Alcee?

My mother betrayed him.

What?

My father. She said suddenly, my mother betrayed my father last night. I haven’t been in contact with her for six years. She was the one who called him, you know. The morning I came home. She shoved me in my room and told me to wait for him to get home and then when he got home she was the one who got him lit up. She was hysterical and crying and screaming about how I’d done the unthinkable and broke the marriage cuvenant and it set him off.

set her

Brunella set her dishes aside and moved to sit with Alcee. I didn’t know this.

My parents had a passionate love affair. It was one I thought would defy everything. I knew she was hurt because he sent me away, but I didn’t know she was holding a grudge against him for it. God, Brunella, he once shot a man dead in our yard because he stared too long at Mama. She smiled too nicely at him. He stared too long. Dad shot him dead. Funnily enough, my mother loved it. The housekeepers all complained all the time about how she’d dropped right there to suck his dick. She looked at Brunella horrified, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that.

It’s fine, Alcee. Go on.Brunella chuckled and patted her hand.

just don’t get it. She loved him. He loved her. It was weird and chaotic and maybe toxic, but I never thought they’d break up, let alone leave him to get murdered. She didn’t even warn him, Brunella. I got to thinking what makes a woman want to run from a man she loves, and I realize she must have thought he’d kill her but six years ago, she threw herself in front of his firearm to protect me. He couldn’t kill her then. It doesn’t make sense, Brunella. He couldn’t kill her then so he wouldn’t do it now. Why would she betray him?

Are you worried you’ll betray Torq?

Chapter 110

No,she made a face. Maybe? Like why does a person change so much? How can someone love so much one day and then hate them enough the next you could let them walk into an ambush to be murdered. What if I’m like her? What if Torq is like her? Ile could kill me for simply looking sideways at another man. Who’s to say I wouldn’t kill him for something equally stupid? I have a son I want to live for.

Alcee, you’re scared you’re going to fall in love with him and he’s going to hurt you. You’re not upset about your father dying last night but you are upset with the fact he died knowing his wife is the one who betrayed him. Am I right?
