The shock on Andreas‘ face made Torq grin a particularly evil smile which made the dangling man begin to second guess whether he was going to be rescued.

“You knew?”

“I knew?” Torq threw his head back and laughed. “Are you asking if I knew my father has been talking with Mariani for some time and only this week finally agreed to meet? Do you know why my father agreed to meet?”

“No.”

“Alcee Mariani,” Torq hauled off and punched the man hard in the abdomen, sending him careening backwards and caught him against his chest. “My fiancée.”

“You were engaged to her, but you called it off”

“An oversight on my part. The engagement is back on.”

“It’s not possible.”

“Isn’t it?” Torq motioned to the men still hanging unconscious. They’d been given a good dose of medications, and it was keeping them out longer than he wanted, “Wake them up.” He pointed to the one to Andreas” left, “he’s your youngest brother, no? Only eighteen. I wonder if he knows you brought him to his death.” He made a show of kicking the head of the other man on the floor away. He gave Tito a smirk, “we should play some football later,”

“I’m in.”

“Have some respect for the dead.” The man hissed angrily.

“No.” Torq shrugged with a careless attitude. “I do not respect anyone undeserving, and your brother died while crying his puny little heart out about how you were making deals, and you were a bit shot here in New York. Tell me, Andreas, does Mercurio Mariani know you were going to make a play for his family? When the man looked away, Torg smiled, “don’t worry. You don’t need to tell us anything. Your brother and cousin will. Also, a little heads up, the pretty brunette you were keeping in a condo in Jersey, she’s not waiting up for you tonight. Her car met with a little accident on the turnpike after her shift at the strip club. He made a plummeting movement with his hand, “splashed right into the river.”

The man immediately realized who he was looking at, given Torq simply standing next to him was eye level and he was hanging from a ceiling. He started writhing and twisting. He waved his fingers t Tito and Bastiano who grabbed him and injected him in the neck.

“What did you do? What did you give him?”

“Sodium pentothal.” Torq grinned as the man started to drool a bit. “Look how fast it hit him. What’s your name, son?”

“Gian Marco.” He gave a little laugh, “what is happening?”

“What is happening is your big brother here overstepped his boundaries, and he needs to be taught a lesson. The question is, are you going to follow in his footsteps or are you going to be a man and tell me what I need to know?”

“You’re Torquato Lozano. The Grizzly. Nobody is as big as you.”

“That’s right, Gian Marco. I am the biggest.” He spread his arms out wide and gave a laugh as the kid laughed loudly. “I am the strongest. I am the most powerful”

“Not for long,” the kid spoke again. “Corrado is working with my father, and they are creating a new family and will steal your business from you”

Torq looked to Andreas. “He talks very easily. You didn’t train him well.”

“Fuck you. He’s only a boy.”

“Mm, he’s a man. You’re a man, aren’t you Gian

“What’s in it for Andreas here? How does he think he’s going to take over my corner of the business here in New York.”

“Corrado was working with a family here. Mariani. Mariani is going to bypass his son and give his family to Andreas.”

“Mercurio is going to lose his seat?”

“Corrado is going to buy out Mariani’s business, Mercurio will be kept on as a capo, but Andreas already said he’d simply kill him, make it look like an accident and install me and my brother in place.”

Torq laughed, “interesting. I find it funny Corrado was going to fuck over someone who might be able to help him. What is the catch?

“We will need to kill the kid when the time is right. Nobody likes to kill a kid. Gian Marco made a face.

Torq froze and his phony smile fell, “what kid?”

“Corrado was in town a few months ago and saw Edgardo Mariani’s daughter coming out of the office where she works and she had a kid with ber. He knew right away it was yours. He told my father they needed to be careful. They’ve been playing Mariani for a fool for months trying to find out if he knew and if you knew of the boy. He panicked when he found out you were coming to New York permanently because he figured you’d see the boy somehow and like him know right away.”
