His kiss to her forehead was soft and reassuring.
“No. I genuinely wanted my parents to meet you and our son. You are important to me Alcee. I am proud you are going to be my wife, and he is our boy. I want to scream it from the rooftops. I know all of this is moving fast but there is no doubt in my mind we are meant to be together for life and our life includes my parents and my sister. I knew I needed to relocate them the minute my hunch was right, and Corrado sent a crew after them. It was inevitable. The plan has been all along when they make the play, my family get put on a plane secretly and brought to America without anyone knowing. I could have put them in any number of safehouses anywhere in the city. I wanted them with us because we are a family and I knew in my heart of hearts my mother was going to love you, and my sister was going to need you.”
“You think Lorita needs me?” Her lips twisted as she felt shy asking the question
“I think Lorita needs to be surrounded by strong women who know their worth, Alcee. It made my heart sing to hear you with her. I cannot wait to watch her in a room with you, Susana, and Amal together to see how strong women support each other the way you three do. It will be good
for her
“Ch.”
He reached his hand out, grimacing at the dirt under his nails and sighed dropping it away instead of touching her as he wanted, “I need to get cleaned up and get this shit off me. Then we are going to go back to bed and talk some more.”
“Back to bed? Torq it’s after five. You told me you usually go to the gym and then to the office. I need to get Antero up in under an hour to get him ready for the day.”
“Antero isn’t going to school for the foreseeable future. You will not be going to work.”
“Why?”
“Can we get cleaned up first and then talk? I really do not like having this fucker’s DNA under my nails.”
She made a face, “I guess it’s a fair complaint.” She stepped out of the shower, rifled through the linen closet, and came back with a battle.
“What is that?”
“An astringent skin cleaner. When I was unpacking one of the boxes from my old place I found it in the bottom. We got dressed up for Antero last year for Halloween and they colored my skin a green color because he really wanted me to be an alien. This is the shit which took off the paint they covered me in.”
“He went out for Halloween?”
“No. Jesus, no. He would melt down like it was nobody’s business to do such a thing but be still wanted candy and so we got dressed up and gave him a little party at home.” She dumped some into his hands, “lather it up. Amal was pissed because it actually caused the glue from her nails to dissolve, and she lost most of her manicure.”
He made a face, “this shit burns.”
“Try rubbing it all over your face, however it takes everything off. Use a good moisturizer after.”
“I feel like I’m being punished.” He grimaced as the liquid entered a small cut in his hand
“You have a cut.”
“It’s what I get for swinging a blade around like a maniac.
“You swung a blade?” The question came out far more judgmental than she intended.
“Do you want the grisly details?” he gave a chuckle as he rinsed his hands out in the handheld sprayer for her to rinse off
“I kind of do if it was to that mother fucker Andreas.” She looked him dead in the eyes, “Torg, he told he would cut my baby from my belly and force me to be his wife. I hope it was painful.”
“Initially,” he grabbed the soap and scrubbed himself far more roughly and vigorously than she did, “I was intending only to make it quick and be

done with it because I wanted to come home. However, sonse information came to light during our discussion with Andreas and his brother Gian Maren, which really pissed me off and I needed to release a fair amount of aggression. It also helped to loosen Andreas” lips far better than the truth serum worked. It’s incredible what kind of information a man will spill when you hack off his cousin’s head right next to him.”
“You took his head off?” she stepped back wide–eyed. “Torg!”
“Andreas” cousin called you the Mariani whore. I removed his tongue from his mouth, but it didn’t feel enough.”
“Who the hell are you?” she was in awe standing there staring at him.
“Your fiancé and your protector. I will not tolerate any man disrespecting you. It is a death sentence for them.” He rinsed his body off and then quickly washed her down too in the event anything he’d dragged into the shower managed to get on her and then he hosed her off too.
“My father disrespected me, and he lives.”
The words fell from her lips in surprise, and she looked to him with wide eyes and a shocked expression on her face.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to say that”
He threw his head back and laughed, “you mean you didn’t intend to say it out loud, but it’s been in the back of your fucking mind. Oh, my sweet Alcee. You are something else. Come on, Watching these bubbles float off your skin is making my dick hard again. Let’s go back to bed. I’ll explain why we’re staying home today and then maybe we can squeeze in a quickie before Ant wakes up or Avalanche needs to go out.”
His wa
“A quickie?” she giggled as he draped a towel around his waist. “Do you even know the meaning?”
“We’re going to find out.”

e bathroom where Torg was showering frowning. It was barely five in the morning. He thought she’d not noticed him sliding out of bed after receiving a text nearly four hours ago, but she’d felt his absence the minute he’d uncurled an arm from her waist to lift his device from the nightstand.
She knew it must be business and if she was going to be the wife of a boss, she knew better than to ask too many questions, however, he’d been gone four hours, and her eyes caught the blood on his shirt as he tried to sneak past her to the bathroom.
She watched him freeze as she entered the space of the shower stall. The water was running red at his feet.
“Is it yours?”
“No.” He was still unmoving as
g as she approached closer to him.
She reached past him and grabbed the body wash, “then we should get this shit off you before it stains. I’m afraid I’m good at cleaning things but the shirt and pants outside the shower are going to need to be burned because one of those companies the cops use to clean crime scenes couldn’t get that off
She watched his shoulders relax as if he’d been expecting her to shriek or yell at him. She slowly moved in front of him, ignoring his grant of concern when she stepped right into the pinkish hued water heading to the drain. She quirked an eyebrow at the mess on his chest.
“Did you take your shirt off before bludgeoning someone?”
He gave a half tilt of his head, still not meeting her eyes, “it was hindering my movements. My shirts tend to be tailored because of my size and getting a good swing was proving difficult.”
Her lips pressed together to try to stop laughing and she squeezed a large amount of body wash into her palm and then began washing his chest and neck, suds accumulating thick and pink. A metallic smell mixing with the citrusy smell of his soap filled her nostrils as he watched her in bewildered amusement.
“I thought you’d be pissed.“)
The quiet confession made her meet his eyes with a gentle smile.
“This,” she waved at his body, “looked like you were managing something deeply personal.”
“The rest of the men who tried to take me out this week and the man who ordered the hit on my stepfather and my mother.”
“Then why would I be pissed, Torquato? You’re protecting us, your family, by removing those who would cause us harm.”
“Do you know the name Andreas Molinaro?”
