Chapter 78
“I agree. Fuck. However, this week, your father reached out again and said he’d just found out the reason I called off the wedding and how Antero was mine. Your father let him know he was pissed off about being left out of a deal where he should have been paid since I claimed you now and wanted to bring us both down. When Corrado this week realized your father has never seen me in person and therefore could never connect the dots between me and Ant, he realized he might be able to use your father for leverage. It is why he agreed to the meeting later this week.”
“Shit.”
“I’m sorry Alcee.”
“Dad is going to use Antero to barter with Corrado?”
“It’s worse.
“How much worse?” her eyes felt like they were filled with grains of sand as she struggled to not cry
ery with the frustration she was feeling.
“This week when Edgardo reached out to Corrado, Molinaro suggested you would make a good d wife for his son Andreas. If Edgardo wanted a reduced bride price, he needed to deliver you to Andreas,”
“And Ant?”
“There was a hit put on Antero by Corrado to be conducted by Molinaro. It seems your father was not concerned about the boy at all and said business is business and a bastard is a bastard. That was a quote from Andreas, I took his hand off for it.”
“My father agreed to a hit on my son?”
“Does Mercurio know?”
“We think this is why he’s gone. We think he found out about your father’s involvement with Corrado, the plan to weaken me and my family by taking out my heir, stealing my wife and killing my parents and balked.”
“He’s not even checked in with his wife though. It’s not like hin”
“Well, here’s the weird part. Your father has been home with your mother waiting for Corrado to arrive into New York.”
“okay.”
“However, Falen made one stop to the house after your father left here, and he has gone home. Michelo hasn’t gone once to check in on your mother and is working his shifts at the deli and ignoring everything and everyone. Allio who still lives at home walked out of the house the same day Falco went by and hasn’t been back.”
“What are you thinking?”
“I’m thinking either Mercurio told your father he wasn’t going to part of this, and he’s been locked up and your brothers are standing by Mercurio in solidarity.”
“Or your father told Mercurio that the hit on Antero is for twenty million dollars and it would go a long way to getting the family out of debt and if Mercurio wants a family he can take over, he’s going to take the job.”
“You think the four of them are laying low because Mercurio is going to do what he does best as Dad’s henchmen and try to kill our son.”
“Did Molinaro confirm it?”
“No. The hit went out to the few families who are affiliated and oddly enough it coincided with me announcing Antero as my heir.”
“They will come for him.”

Chapter 78
“No.” he shook his head. “I put a contingency in place already. Antero and you and I are going to he staying here for a few days while the plan and all our safeguards are put in place. My father, Cicciu and my mother will be here with us, Lorita too. We will assemble our army, and we will systematically begin dismantling everything Corrado thinks he is building, We’re taking it down from the inside out.”
“How?” she clung t to his forearm desperate to know how they would keep Antero safe.
I arrive in New York.
“First, Molinaro needs to abandon Corrado. In roughly eight hours, Corrado, Molinaro and another associate of theirs will They think they are coming in under cover, but I have an inside man who is feeding me details. The car which is picking them up will have the heads of Molinaro’s sons in it. Corrado guaranteed him his plan was foolproof, and nobody would hurt his boys. He loves his sons. They are dead. He will be soon too. When Molinaro gets home to New York to find his entire family is obliterated, he is going to be angry with Corrado.”
“Or he’ll double down on backing Corrado.”
*He can but I know Molinaro. He’ll demand Corrado ride separately so he can grieve. Corrado will get in the other car. Molinaro will ride with the body parts of his sons to mourn and then boom.”
“Boom?”
“There might be some C4 stuck in the youngest one’s head.”
“Torq!” She tried not to laugh at how expressive his face was. He was quite pleased with himself over the idea.
*I am going to take out Molinaro while Corrado is in the car behind him.”
