Chapter 556
Chapter 556
Austin’s chest tightened. ‘She left with someone else? Who?”
He knew Cameron had been working a summer job with Elijah.
Without hesitating further, Austin pulled out his phone. After a few seconds of deliberation, he called Elijah.
Elijah, half–asleep, answered groggily. “Hello?”
“Sorry to bother you this late, Eli,” Austin said gently. His tone was apologetic, though his expression remained unreadable. “I’ve been trying to reach Cam. Did you two leave work together tonight? Head home at the same time?”
“Cameron?” Elijah woke up a little more. “No, I went home. He said he wasn’t going back to Noble Vista tonight.”
Austin paused. “He’s not? Why not?”
‘Is he avoiding me? No way. It was just one message to Xander. And it wasn’t even a lie.‘
“I don’t know,” Elijah said plainly.
When he got no response on the other end, Elijah closed his eyes again. “You need anything else? I’m going back to sleep.”
Austin came back to himself. “No, that’s it
He ended the call.
Sorry again, Eli. Get some rest.”
Then he just sat there, on that cold bench, brow furrowed, shoulders slightly hunched in the night.
‘Cameron is really ignoring me. He’s actually ignoring me. How could he? He’s my Cam. He’s the most important person I have in this world. If he shuts me out… what the hell am I supposed to do?‘
Vincent stood quietly behind him, sensing the shift in Austin’s mood. He didn’t speak.
Austin didn’t move either.
He remained seated, still and silent, like he’d turned to stone.
It wasn’t until 3 AM that Vincent finally broke the silence.
“Sir, it’s past three. Maybe we should head home, get some rest. Whatever it is, it can wait until tomorrow.”
Austin finally turned his head. “Vincent.”
“I’m here,” Vincent replied respectfully, eyes calm and steady.
“Find out where Cameron’s working,” Austin said softly. “Buy the company.”
Vincent gave a nod. “Yes, sir.”
The next morning, sunlight spilled golden over Silvermoss Castle.
As Cameron opened her bedroom door, a pair of soft paws immediately latched onto her leg.
“Rrruff…”

Chapter 556
“Morning, Pearl.” Cameron said, rubbing the top of his head.
Pearl nuzzled against her shin affectionately.
She chuckled and gave him another pat. “Good boy.”
When she headed downstairs, Eddie was already lounging in the living room.
“Morning, Cam,” he called.
“Morning, Eddie,” she replied.
“Cam, staying here is the life. The air’s fresh, the vibe’s great–I might never leave,” Eddie said with a dramatic sigh.
Cameron laughed. “If you like it that much, you’re welcome to stay a few more days.”
“I’m afraid that’s not an option,” Bradley’s voice came from behind he
Eddie raised a brow. “Why not?”
Bradley replied smoothly, “Your harem’s probably waiting for you to Wouldn’t want to keep all your girlfriends waiting, would you?”
Eddie blinked.
kin
Cameron grinned. “Eddie, you might want to stop playing the field before it blows up
“Hey, hey, hey–Cam, don’t listen to him. I don’t have any girlfriends. I’m still single, thank you very much,” Eddie insisted.
Bradley shot him a look. “You willing to swear that on something sacred?”
Eddie blinked.
Leaning over, Eddie whispered through gritted teeth, “Bradley, you’re done for.”
That kind of urgency to kick him out? He could smell it from a mile away.
Bradley was angling for alone time with Cameron.
Hopeless. Absolutely hopeless.
Bradley frowned. “What exactly am I done for?”
Eddie glanced toward Cameron, then dragged Bradley aside, and lowered his voice. “You’re screwed. You’re in love.”
Bradley stared at him.
Eddie doubled down. “Bradley, you’re toast.”
Bradley paused for a beat. “You’re not seriously pulling an Eric and accusing me of catching feelings for Cameron, are you?”
Eddie raised a brow. “Aren’t you?”
Bradley narrowed his eyes. “You’ve lost it.”
“Nope,” Eddie said flatly. “You have.”
“I’m not doing this with you. Eat breakfast, and then get out,” Bradley said without looking back.
Eddie blinked.

Chapter 556
Bradley walked straight into the dining room.
Cameron was already seated at the table. The food was set, but she hadn’t touched it she was waiting.
Bradley sat beside her. “Go ahead and eat. I’ll drive you to work after.”
Eddie walked in just in time to hear that.
His eyes rolled so hard they practically left orbit.
‘Unbelievable. Still denying it? But then again… how is this going to work out for Brad? The two of them? That won’t be easy.
“Ugh,” Eddie sighed as he flopped into a chair..
Cameron glanced at him. “What’s wrong with you?”
Eddie sighed again, even touder this time.
Cameron was now super confused.
Bradley replied before he could answer, “He just got a bunch of calls from his girlfriends asking him to spend Valentine’s Day with them, and now he doesn’t know which one to choose.”
Cameron was at a loss for words.
Eddie whipped his head around.
“Seriously?” Cameron asked.
“Absolutely not,” Eddie shot back. “Cam, don’t believe a word he says. None of it’s true. In fact, what are you doing on Valentine’s Day? Want to spend it with me?”
Cameron was now super confused.
Bradley looked over too. “Since when are you into boys, Eddie?”
Eddie gave a smug little smile. “Funny, I was just about to ask you the same thing.”
Bradley stared at him.
Cameron blinked.
‘Wait, what? What are these two even talking about? Must just be their usual back–and–forth.’
She didn’t think too hard about it.
After breakfast, Cameron and Eddie both rode with Bradley into the city.
Eddie opened the front passenger door, stepped one foot inside, but Bradley spoke before he could sit down. “Eddie, take the back seat.”
Eddie turned to glare. “Why?”
“You sitting next to me would ruin mood.”
Eddie blinked.
my
‘Right. Subtle. Real subtle. Won’t let me sit up front? Just say you want Cameron next to you and be done with it. Unbelievable.‘
He didn’t argue–just sighed and climbed into the back.

Chapter 556
When Cameron opened the rear door, she saw Eddie already inside.
Bradley looked over and said, “Cameron, take the front seat.”
She blinked. “Eddie, you’re not sitting up front?”
Eddie gave her a forced smile. “I like the back. More leg room.”
She nodded and got into the front.
Once they hit the main road, Bradley pulled over.
He turned in his seat and looked at Eddie.
Eddie instantly got a bad feeling.
Sure enough, the next words out of Bradley’s mouth were, “Eddie, you’re here.”
Eddie stared out the window at a patch
the middle of nowhere. “Here? Where?”
Bradley replied calmly, “Didn’t you say your girlfriend was picking you up here?”
Eddie went still for a beat, his jaw locking.
“When did I ever say that?‘
Then again, it wasn’t the first time Bradley had said nonsense with a straight face.
Grinding his teeth, Eddie opened the door and got out.
He leaned down and tapped on the passenger window. “Cam, I’m gonna miss you. You better miss me too.”
The window rolled up in his face.
Eddie blinked and then straightened up with a humorless laugh.
He opened his mouth to say something else, but the black sedan peeled away and sped off.
Eddie stood there, lips parted, one hand still raised.
In the passenger seat, Cameron glanced in the rearview mirror and saw Eddie literally jumping in place. She turned to Bradley. “Eddie’s girlfriend is really picking him up out here?”
Bradley didn’t blink. “Yeah.”
He tapped the steering wheel with his fingers. “Eddie’s full of it half the time. Don’t take anything he says seriously.”
“What exactly did he say?” she asked.
“He said he’d miss you,” Bradley replied.
Cameron laughed. “Obviously he was joking.”
Bradley gave her a sideways glance. “Try not to spend too much time around him.”
She raised a brow. “Why not?”
“He’ll corrupt you,” Bradley said simply.

Chapter 556
“You mean… like dating multiple people at once?”
“Exactly.”
Cameron snorted. “Relax. I’m not into that player lifestyle. Hell, I’m not even interested in one.”
Bradley didn’t answer, but the corner of his mouth curved up slightly.
He pulled up in front of her office building.
That morning, Elijah arrived at the office a full hour early.
But instead of heading to his workstation, he stood waiting in the lobby, eyes fixed on the front entrance through the glass wall.
He didn’t know how long he’d been standing there when he finally saw it–Bradley’s car pulling up to the curb. A few seconds later, Cameron stepped out of the front passenger seat.
Elijah’s gaze dimmed.
So, from last night until now, Cameron has been with Bradley. Where have they gone? What have they been doing?
His thoughts spiraled before he could stop them.
“Elijah?”
Cameron’s voice brought him back. She had just walked through the front doors and spotted him.
“You’re here,” Elijah said flatly.
Cameron nodded. “Yeah. Why are you still down here?”
“I was waiting for you,” he replied.
“Waiting for me?”
Elijah nodded again, and the two of them walked toward the elevators together.
He asked, “Did Austin reach out to you?”
Cameron blinked. “Austin?”
‘So he has been trying to find me.‘
“He called me at midnight last night,” Elijah said. “Wanted to know if you went back to Noble Vista.”
Cameron’s tone cooled. “Don’t bother with him.”
Elijah immediately caught the shift. “Did something happen between you two?”
Cameron didn’t hide it. She told him what had gone down the night before.
Elijah frowned. “What’s he even trying to do?”
“I have no idea,” Cameron said simply.
“Did you ask him?”
“I tried. I wanted to talk. But when he finally decided he was ready… I wasn’t interested anymore.”

Elijah stayed quiet.
Clearly, Austin had screwed up… badly.
But it wasn’t his place to say more.
He headed off to his own workstation while Cameron returned to the R&D department.
The department head gave her a sharp look the second she walked in. “Cameron, you’ve been coasting for two months now. How long are you planning to hang around this team?”
Cameron said flatly, “Probably until the company shuts down.”
“Excuse me?” the supervisor blinked.
He glared. “You’re unbelievable? You know what? Someone like you should just be fired.”
Cameron frowned. “Do you seriously have nothing better to do than monitor me all day?”
The tension between them immediately drew attention. Colleagues stopped what they were doing and started eavesdropping.
“You’re the only one in this department who acts like someone on vacation. Who else am I supposed to keep an eye on?” the supervisor snapped.
Cameron’s voice turned cool. “If you’ve got that much time on your hands, maybe it’s time for a career change.”
The supervisor stiffened. “What’s that supposed to mean? Are you threatening to fire me?”
Cameron didn’t waste words. She pulled out her phone and made a call to David.
But before it even rang once, a ringtone sounded right outside the office.
“Mr. Wallace,” David said, walking in briskly.
Cameron hung up and said, “Perfect timing. Mr. Tucker, please send him to payroll. He’s done here.”
David nodded. “Understood, Mr. Wallace.”
The supervisor froze, stunned speechless.
So were the rest of the employees.
Everyone knew Cameron had some kind of powerful backing–David calling him Mr. Wallace had already hinted at that–but none of them expected his words to carry this much weight.
This was next–level.
“You can’t be serious! I haven’t done anything wrong–on what grounds are you firing me?” the supervisor protested.
Cameron replied coolly, “I know the rules. Go to payroll and collect your compensation.”
“Excuse me?” the supervisor blinked.
David stepped closer and said quietly, “Mr. Wallace, can I speak to you for a moment?”
Cameron noticed the urgency in his eyes and didn’t bother responding to the supervisor any further. She followed David into the general manager’s
office.
David closed the door behind them.

“What’s going on?” Cameron asked directly, sensing something was up.
David’s expression was tense. “Mr. Wallace, someone’s trying to acquire the company,”
Cameron blinked.
‘Someone wants to acquire Aurevia Biotech? But the company has barely gotten off the ground. It isn’t even valuable yet. Who’d be stupid enough to buy it now?‘
“Which company?” she asked.
“Fraser Group,” David answered.
Cameron was now super confused.
David continued, “I looked into it. The current head of Fraser Group is Austin Fraser. I heard he was your high school classmate. Maybe… you could reach out to him?”
Cameron didn’t respond right away.
‘Austin? He’s trying to buy out Aurevia Biotech? What the hell is he thinking? He probably doesn’t even realize this is my company. So what is his motive?”
“Mr. Wallace?” David prompted, seeing her fall silent.
Cameron finally said, “Don’t worry. I’ll talk to Austin.”
“Appreciate it,” David said.
Once he left, Cameron remained seated in the office and pulled out her phone.
She dialed Austin directly–video call.
It rang for a while before he finally picked up.
Austin appeared on screen wearing a black robe, tousled blonde hair falling over his sleepy face.
Still, he was smiling. “Cam.”
She was calling him. That alone was enough to make him light up!
But Cameron didn’t smile back. Her tone was blunt, all business. “Are you trying to acquire Aurevia Biotech?”
Austin froze.
Aurevia… what?‘
Seeing the blank expression on his face, Cameron narrowed her eyes. “So you didn’t know?”
Austin sat up straighter, suddenly more alert. “Cam, I’ve never even heard of that company. Hang on, let me check with Vincent.”
He grabbed his phone and started walking downstairs.
Vincent was already waiting politely in the entry hall.
“Good morning, sir,” Vincent greeted him.
“Vincent,” Austin said, turning the camera around so Vincent could see Cameron on the other end, “is Fraser Group trying to acquire some pharmaceutical company?”
